This stuff looks great! I really enjoyed your lovefest entry! I'll def check back on this one.

I wish I lived in Brooklyn...

Um...like 3 blocks from my house, Holmes. You could've said hi.

This is looking great. Been looking at the blog, but I would like to get some more info on how you are actually putting this together. Basically just running around the streets with a camera?

I have to know what lenses you're using! This stuff looks amazing. Any other treatment on the footage?

mark i sent you a pm. as for how we are putting this together...

making a first feature with no money in a very expensive city where you know nobody and have zero resources is...FUN! things have been really crazy so far with your average filmmaking experiences that include tracking down locations, stealing shots on the street without permits, scrounging up cash (begging for it), sharing a basement dungeon apartment with 4 other people and pretending our producer doesn't have a drinking problem. but i love almost every minute of it, the script is amazing and the cast and crew are so much fun to work with that i'm sad to think in a couple of weeks i'll have to go home to minneapolis.

hey tk3,

sorry i missed your above post. the handheld tests were shot with my nikkor 35mm 1:1.4, aka old faithful. pretty much everything we've shot so far on the actual film has been on that lens, a nikon 17-35 or the 80-200 aka 'hot dog'. the zooms are a ***** to focus but i'm getting some good stuff so far. :love4:

stills are all straight from the camera.

Synopsis

Alin Druthers is lonely. He collects back issues of “Reader’s Digest”, stocks his closet full of unused light bulbs, and hasn’t had a steak dinner in ten years. Charley is a broken hearted Polish immigrant turned call-girl. She yearns for her ex-boyfriend, avoids the daylight in her windowless basement apartment, and chain smokes the night away. Together they form an unlikely bond built on the nostalgia of the past with the desire to enjoy the present. Happy Birthday Rita is a wryly comedic, melancholic story that follows a pair of unlikely friends on their path to moving forward.

Wartez man you have mad skillz. I'm never a fan of stills but these look great. What's your lighting setup, if any, for these exterior night shots?

Hey thanks man. Chinatown is very bright and the EX1 mixed with LEX and a 1.4 lens helps. One of the shots we got lucky and lit it with a garbage truck or the garbage truck lit it for us would be more accurate. Next two weeks is mostly interiors so I'll be posting a lot of stuff we are going to light finally.
