Canon XH G1 MIC LOOSE

Got a quick question. I just got a Canon XH G1 just recently (3-4months ago). And since I got it, I noticed that the mic (on-board) is loose. Here is a link to what I am talking about. The mic is working perfectly, the mic is not like loose, loose. Its just a tad. Is this common? I do have a warrenty, will this cover it?

Yes, some loose is okay, but mine is extreme loose. I use a run bag for production and not a hard case (for the camera) and taking it in and out while adding stuff in the bag has helped make the mic really loose. I tried to talk to the Canon people at NAB but could not find the right time to connect.

DVinfo.net also has a thread for this. I will be contacting Canon to see what they say about my camera.

are you sure it's not supposed to be like that? I own a canon xh-a1 and the onboard mic moves a few millimeters both ways, from what I understand, it is geared towards people who do a lot of handheld and moving work.

Ya, its some loose. I just didnt know if it was suppose to be like that or what. Because in different cameras, like GL2, its not loose like that at all. Its tight like no other.

FatDaddy, Tell me what Canon Says when you get in contact with them.

Will do. Right now I gaff tape it to hold it up. It is an issue with some cameras, but it is designed to be a bit loose with some wiggle room.

Hi,

I had the same prob with my A1 - in my opinion it was just too loose, so I took it to Canon - they said 'its meant to be like that', but after 6 months it seemed to get worse, until I was doing a 2 camera shoot with my A1 and a G1 - comparing the two it was clear that the A1 was a lot looser than the G1 so I took it in, and it is now mended - apparently there is a slight fault with the fixing. So I'd get it checked out if I were you - and do a side-by-side comparison with another camera.
Cheers,

Chris D
