I think this is my favorite HVX shot video that I've had the pleasure of directing & editing:

Flash version @ reactiv

or

High Quality Quicktime

Would love to hear what people think.

This was DP'd by the incomparable Joshua Allen. produced at rectiv pictures in Toronto.

Here's a still:

Oh.. some specs:
Shot on HVX 200... stock lens.
720p and 24fps
DP used a really fast shutter speed to get as sharp movements as possible.
Most of the coloration was done on set... with some post color corr. done afterwards.
Grain/blur and film burns were added in post.
Edited on Final Cut Pro 6.

I thought the editing really matched the energy of the song. I LOVED the colors in this and the massive editing as well. The camera work was a bit questionable in the beginning but then really paid off. My favorite shot was the full frontal shot where you can see his blue eyes and when you superimpose him on a wide shot as well

Props man, looks good

Was all of the shooting done with a single HVX camcorder?

Yes actually, we shot everything on 1 HVX. The amount of editing and post FX makes it seem like we shot a lot, but we really only shot about an hours worth of footage.
I'm glad you dig the video. Thanks!

That was an energetic and high paced vid. Like the supers and the color and the grain. That shot with the guys eyes were really cool. Overall a very nice piece, but it's kind of funny to see a performance piece from eletronic musicians. I mean, I did LOL at the part where they guy moves the fader with his mouth. Not exactly the same thing as Hendrix playing his guitar with his teeth. I do often wonder how much of this is just fiddling for the crowd as most of it is already sequenced.. But that's just me showing my age.

cheeers on a nice vid.

Thanks everyone... I'm glad people are digging the video thus far.
It should be playing on Much Music in Canada every now and then (for any Canadians on this board).

what program did you use for the film burns?!

I didn't use a particular program for the film burn... I just had a generic stock "film Burn" quicktime that I grabbed a long time ago off the net. I then messed with it (sped it up, colour adjusted it) and then composited on top of certain shots using the simple "Add" composite mode on the FCP timeline.

Hope that helps.

Watched it so many times already. First thing when I started my computer today :) Its really great! All those colours and moves, it all cuts so well with the song.

Loved it! This is a great job and shows what you can do with a stock camera. I really like the superimposition showing off his blue eyes.

Thanks.... my main objective was to be as true to the energy of the song (and, perhaps more importantly, the performance of these guys).

I was watching Much last night and this video caught my eye as something uniquely exciting.

Great visuals to go with a great song.

Thanks so much! You don't happen to remember what show it was on do you? Videoflow, Wedge, MuchMegaHits?

I'm just curious to see if I can catch it on TV myself.

It was either MuchMegaHits or Videoflow(big help I am) but I bet it will hit Countdown soon.
