Print to tape using FCP & XH-A1 as tape deck

I really need some help exporting my video to a tape in my XH-A1. I've done it before, (quite recently) but even then I always had problems and I'm trying to do it again following the same steps I took the last time but now I'm getting nothing but this error: Check HDV/DV input. I've only found one thread on dvxuser and very few others on different sites. It doesn't seem like a lot of people are having this problem and nothing anyone suggested on those threads has helped me.

Here's the steps I take. I use FCP 6 and my XH A1 as a tape deck. I shot in 24p and used the HDV 1080p24 easy setup.

I''ve exported my edited footage from the timeline and created a single file to use to print to tape.

I open log and capture to make sure FCP has recognized my camera. After testing it, I click on print to video and set my preferences.

Once I say OK it begins conforming like it should.

After it's done conforming I follow the directions and click record on the camera and "ok" to begin playing back the conformed video.

The record dot blinks several times as the video begins playing back and then I get the error on the camera to "Check HDV/DV input" while the video in FCP continues.

I've tried setting the camera to both regen and copy the timecode, I've tried clicking "ok" to playback the video in FCP BEFORE clicking record on my camera, I've tried using different tapes, some blank, some with video on them. I even tried exporting a previous video that I have already successfully exported using print to tape and I still get the error. Lastly, I've even tried different fcp video settings (HDV firewire, HDV firewire basic, HDV firewire basic NDF).

I can't think of anything else to try and I really hope someone else can suggest some things.

I had problems with both XH-A1 AND the Sony Z1 in FCP (I have Studio 1).

It's always "cross your fingers" if I want to print something to tape.

First, I thought it was mainly the canon giving me gripes, but I noticed that the Z1 has its problems too.

What helps for me is: trying, trying, trying.
Also, exiting FCP, shutting down the Mac (not restarting) unplugging the firewire helps.
Restart the Mac, plug in the firewire and only THEN start FCP.

Don't know whether that solves it, but I always get a bit desperate too.
I feel your pain.

I don't have the A1 but with my XL2 I have never been able to go from FCP6 back to my camera when the footage is 24p. Have no idea why as 30p and 60i works without a hitch. But 24p will not work so maybe you are having similar situations. Ugh!

Is there any update on this problem that anyone is aware of?
I have tried it all and this post is actually the first addressing the 24p possibility which is what I have shot my footage in. Ugh! Give up?
