HPX500 Rails from Cinevate

The Proteus rail system is discussed in our latest Cinevate Video University segment: http://www.cinevate.com/website/index.php/videouniversity

The system has an option for use with ENG cameras, as you'll see with the HPX500 mounted with a mattebox. These are our 60cm solid carbon rails which are half the weight of the standard stainless tubing, but 75% stiffer. The system is designed to support everything from the little HV20 right on up to the big boys, for adapters in flipped, non-flipped mode, and pretty much anything else you could dream up :-)

Cheers,
Dennis.

Dennis,

That demonstration is awesome. Thank you. However I see that the Proteus adds some height to the front of the hpx500. Can a RedRock Follow Focus still reach the len's FF gear ring ?

Thanks and please let us know. Otherwise, I be placing my order for the Proteus.

Now that's a good question. It was mounted using the SHAN QR plate which adds nearly two inches of height. We have not worked out a direct attach, but we may just have to if this turns out to be a demand. Our upcoming follow focus is adjustable with regard to height, spacing from the rails, angle of approach, as well as left/right orientation...so in that case we're not too worried.

Thank you Dennis for the quick reply. IMHO the proteus is definitely the most flexible and adjustable rail system that I ahve seen in the market today, especially for the 35mm 'flippers'. I am surprised you didnt charge more money for it.

Those rails look good, But Denis I wouldn't buy em for my HPX 500. The reason is because you can not easyly and comfortably go handheld with those rails. Other companys sell small plates that replace the original v plate on the camera. They go between the camera and the standard tripod plate. They take 15 mm rails. Unfortunatly they charge way to much for them.

May be you could make one of these but cheaper.

Dennis's rail system would be perfect for the B4 relay + 35mm adapter. The added height with the b4 relay would put the lens in the perfect spot for a FF.

If you want somehting liek the Zacuto system but without paying their outrageous price, look at the cavision rail system for 2/3" ENG cams. It has the same low profile and function the same but it is way more reasonable than the Zacutos.

OK, but I would still perfer that type of rail system even with a B4 adaptor. I need to do handhlend.

Have seen the pics of the Letus B4 on an HPX at NAB?

no, can you share the pics of the letus b4 relay pls ?

If you are using the relay, it means that you are going to use 35mm adapter with 35mm lenses. Meaning that, we would need 2 hand grips on the rails so we can balance the rig while using it handheld. I dont see why we cant put 2 handles on the cinevate Proteus.

That's correct, the HPX500 is sitting right where it needs to be for use with our B4 relay. It's also OK with the Shan plate and our mattebox with it's height adjustable mount. That said, an adapter plate is 100% doable, but my expectation is that most HPX500 owners already have the Shan or Sony QR plates??
