anyone here drive a scooter?

If I can afford it, I'd like to get a Honda Ruckus.

The chicks like it. I'd be crazy not to get one! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

A chick magnet if there ever was one.

I'd strongly suggest you get something more powerful than a 50cc, 100cc at least - it still won't be fast, but it will be able to get you out of trouble.

Can't ride them down here - I'd get bashed.

WOW! They do...that's incredible actually. Gas prices are insane and for getting around my area, when I have to be there fast, I rather not take my car. 3.0l cars just guzzle gas.

I will definitely see if I can test drive one. Does anyone know if I need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter?

If Canada is anything like the US then no, a drivers license is all you need because it isn't in the motorcycle classification. The engine is too weak.

Maybe not a great idea, to mod them for power.

The wheels, tires, and suspension aren't meant for it. I'm not sure they're ideal, for the speeds it can reach, stock.

I've thought about it before, but how long would it take for the scooter to pay for itself in gas savings? I don't drive very much as is and I can ride my bike to work so no scooter here.

It was our only vehicle in new orleans. I drove it to work everday.

I filled up once a month for $5
add two $7 cab rides home from the grocery store.
Monthly fuel and related cost $19. Mabe make that $25 for todays prices.

Couple that with $250 insurance for the entire year and the fact that it was legal to park them on a sidewalk in New Orleans, and it pays for itself pretty quick.

I almost have my wife convinced that I should sell my car and get a motorcycle. Although she could very well just be toying with me.

Yeah, as an only vehicle I can see it saving money instantly, but I was thinking more alone the lines of a scooter in conjunction w/a car.

Even then you might be able to save some in the end. Just depends on how many scooter trips you made in comparison to car trips. I'm out in a suburb and during the week I'm in the city so I'm stuck using highways to work. I could only use one for shopping on the weekends and such. Just dont do enough of that to justify it. Those ruckuses (sp??) look awesome though. If I had a bunch of extra money floating around I'd get one... alas I dont :(

If I didn't already ride my bike a lot I'd probably end up w/a scooter. Between my bicycle and my car though a scooter wouldn't get used very much.

I've seen scooters on the highway. IIRC, the Honda Silver Wing can hit 110mph.

Good point, I was thinking more along the 50cc line of scooters. That silverwing is a beast. I'm curious why one wouldnt just get a gold wing or a similar motorcycle at that point.

Your only talking about another 10mph. The ruckus can EASILY handle 45mph. Its the hummer of mopeds.

If I were to get something with only 2 wheels, I'd probably get a Buell...

I've test-ridden Firebolts. Those little bikes are just brutal.

The Ulysses looks cool, though. I like to park next to them up at Newcomb's Ranch; side by side they look like my own bike's distant genetically-drifted cousin, or something.
