Andromeda SGpro Short Film

Here it is... my first short film with an Andromeda/SGpro setup (Nikon lenses).

Be sure you double click on the thumbnail with the guy sleeping in bed. :P lol.

Double click on the thumbnail farthest to the right. It's called "Eat, Sleep, Repeat". There is an HD download available, but I don't really recommend it too much, the compression is pretty high...

Just to be sure people are looking at the right one, the film has a scene in a city, park, living room, a bunch of car shots....

Overall, I'm very happy with the piece. Shot in two days, very small budget, yet it did have a budget. The only thing I didn't like, were the lenses I had. Not the sharpest Nikons around. I shot this with a Rev. 2 unit, and prior to my extensive testing about a month ago of the Rev 3 flip module version. I only had about a few hours to test the adapter before this shoot. Color corrected in AE 7.0. Shot in 10 bit RGB.

Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks,

Wow!!
it really felt like it was shot on an HD camera, more then a DVX
I can definetly see the colors were more crisp and rich.
but I didn't see much DOF shots? was the SGpro used on all shots?

also
how much did it cost for the mod? (if you don't mind)

Very vibrant color, pastels were nice and warm in the dusk-time shots, and the green lights and blue light reflections in the escalator shots were very nice. I like that his very white shirt didn't totally blow out.

How much disk space did you end up using during capture, and in editing?

Just looked at it again. Your use of the 35mm was very sparing. I only saw a couple of potential shots where it was used in - but those could have been with the stock lens.

Thanks for the comments!

Some of you might be looking at the wrong film though... be sure you double click on the thumbnail with the guy sleeping in bed. :P lol.

The DOF was a bit sparring, but mostly because I was a crew of 1 essentially... pulling my own focus, rigging the lights, running electric, I was basically one man banding this. Not the easiest way of working, but when the budget is shoe string.... you can't always hire help.

I think the DOF was deeper because a lot of shots used wider angle lenses, so it will be less noticeable anyways. If I could go back and do it again, I would try to get more prep time with the adapter, and make sure I had enough money to rent sharper faster Nikons. The mode was around 2,500 bucks brand new.

The whole film is about 200 gigs in RAW format, we shot around 500 gigs total I believe.

Beautiful!

So filmic...

What happened to the andromeda\hydra battle?

Any progress?

This was beautiful. :)

But in terms of story, why don't give the poor guy some solution, some hope.

Is this part of a bigger project?

Otherwise, very interesting. I was interested to see what happens hext.

But I needed a solution.

Juz my 2c.

Great work! :)

Okay, just watched the right one. Nice story, good actors, good camera moves. The blacks are really black! I like that a lot. The dark scene in the parking lot where he pulls away at night is very dark, but detail is still present without noise - I do love Andromeda footage. The use of the 35mm adapter didn't seem to add noise in the deep shadows and blacks, even though I was expecting it to. Is this a new technique you've discovered in calibrating the sensors?

Excellent.

I liked it alot, I was too focused on the story to really even notice the camera work. So that means it was all really well done. Thanks for sharing.

Great acting! Really. I loved how the actors played there parts, it looked quite professional. Also I thought the audio was quite good, needed some post mixing.

What mic did you use for the interiour scenes?

May I ask how you get this wonderful flashvideo quality?

Thanks

Absolutely beautiful...great story...great soundtrack...great cinematography...good main actor

one advice I have....cut down the scene that shows her married ring...it is a bit too long...

the rest is wonderful...

bravo

That was sweet. Great direction and actors. Love those awkward moments!

Was this on the DVX100- A - B ?

The Andromeda sounds pretty cool. It definitely LOOKs amazing. How was the workflow? It seems like a PITA, especially compared to dv tapes? Overall, what was your experience using the Andromeda?

Any pics of your setup?

I shot this using a modded DVX100 A model camera.

Many people have noticed my ability to produce extremely low noise images, and I have a few techniques actually. One of which is optical filtering of the camera used in conjunction with a specially created white balance that forces all the sensors into equal gain. Essentially the camera becomes a Viper Filmstream. The other technique I use is processing related. I do custom sharpening in post. A lot of noise that appears in digital footage seems to stem from inferior global sharpening, which makes sense, good unsharp masking on the fly is very tough processing wise. For this shoot, I only used the special sharpening techniques.

As for why I was basically a one man band....

I personally hate asking people to work for free, its one of my hang ups I guess. One thing I've noticed though, is that crew just don't have any stake in the end product... so why should they even wanna work for free!? I can't blame them, a job on a major film set for them is just that, a job. It's not their art, they don't even know what the script is, there's no passion for the show. I believe in looking out for my crew as much as I can, and I feel that not paying people who have no stake in the film is like the ultimate slap in the face. Just my 2 cents...
