Panasonic apparently knows nothing about this P2 workflow issue...

We're using a mac book pro, OSX 10.5, going into the express port with a a PCMCIA Dual Adaptor and 16g P2 cards (for HVX200).

A little P2 icon shows up on the top bar and, when we insert P2 card into adaptor, the only active option is to remove the card. No icon shows up on the desktop so we haven't even had the opportunity to drag footage.

Downloaded P2CMS but its not seeing the cards. However, strangely, FCP can read the cards...we plugged HVX200 into mac book via firewire and we're able to log and capture like card footage like it was recored on tape.

Everyone and everything has so far only pointed us in the direction of Dual Adaptor driver issues but we're pretty sure we installed all the drivers. We downloaded and uploaded driver updates over and over and still nothing worked. We called Panasonic, looked on web forums and such. Apparently no one has had a similar issue.

If you can see the cards through the camera, but not through the duel adapter, then the likeliness is that you didn't successfully install the duel drivers.

Do you mean the driver for the P2 card or the adapter?

We're using OSX 10.5. Supposedly we don't need it install adapter drivers if this is the case?

If your system isn't working, I say install the driver. Download the latest drivers from panasonic.sixbullets.net and make sure you've got what you need.

the driver on that link is the one we've installed multiple times.

and our current version of OSX will not allow us to upload the driver on the cd (the one that came with the adaptor).

icons show up on the desktop when we plug HVX in via firewire. So is it possible that something is wrong with the adaptor internally?

If you have another pc card (pcmcia card) you can test the adapter by using that instead of the P2 card. Of course if it works, that'll tell you that your adapter is working with your Mac. If it doesn't, you're still not much further ahead.

the only prob i've had with the duel adapter was it stopped working all together. the little icon would not show up in the menu bar nor in the system profiler.

I called both companies, panasonic and Duel systems and they are not giving me any answers. The strangest thing is that it works through the firewire from the camera, so the P2 cards are definitely being read, but just not with the card reader.

The problem we have is the one everyone has, which is that Panasonic doesn't know how to make software properly, which is why P2CMS is useless hard drive wasting software unless you use Tiger, and if you're like me you would never use an OS one day past there being a better OS out. This isn't Winblows, it's not like it gets worse as it goes on, LOL, Leopard was a huge upgrade over Tiger and I switched immediately. So P2CMS doesn't work whatsoever with Leopard, it crashes the entire computer, and does so for everyone. This is a well known error now, you can Google it and see they've not apparently fixed it yet. As of two weeks ago anyway it was not operable. I'm amazed how slow BIG companies are at making their software work. I got an HP scanner / copier / fax / printer and on March 17 they FINALLY released the patch to make it scan with Leopard. Ridiculous.

I am not convinced that the "drag and drop" errors have anything to do with drag and dropping files, though. I'm convinced it was a matter of those users not locking their cards first. I don't see any technological way that a locked card can destroy footage by dragging the files from the card to the desktop. That just makes no sense, sounds like irrational paranoia to me. But I would like it if P2CMS would work, that'd be nice.

First off, I totally agree that Panasonic's support for the Mac is inadequate and a disgrace. Given that most of their customers use Macs, there is no excuse for it.

However, when a change in the operating system breaks applications, that's Apple's fault. It's also pathetic when an application can crash the OS. If Steve Jobs and the PC vs. Mac commercials are to be believed, the Mac is free of all those problems...

I've never seen a program crash the Mac before, ever, I've seen programs crash, that happens a fair amount still, less than with PCs but it does happen (especially older versions of Safari, jeez, but they seemed to have fixed that lately). I'm sorry but I still blame it on Panasonic. They must have designed a serious crapfest to crash OS 10.5 ;)

That's very interesting as I was unable to use the dual adapter on my MacBookPro Tiger (10.4.11). At the time followed Barry's advice downloaded all possible drivers and updates I could find or read about, yet nothing worked. The little icon would appear on the top rite hand side but no driver recognized. After a sequence of reboots, plug ins of the adapter and driver downloads it recognized the card. Half way through backing up the card the computer crashed. I had to ditch the dual adapter work flow and haven't tried using it ever since.

As this was a few months ago now I can't remember the exact downloads and their versions. Does any body know what to install and in what sequence to make the dual adapter work? I under stand it is very fickle in it's responses and requires very specific conditions to work and or install. Needs to be plugged in whiles the computer is powered on or off, needs a certain version of OS, latest drivers or waving a rubber chicken over my head? what do we need to do?

Also anybody hear anything about the new AJ-PCD35 Express Card? Prices? shipping time? Does it work better than the dual adapter?

P.S:
P2CMS has very poorly written menus you'd think Yoda wrote it, that said it has been working fine.

I have to agree with you here. I never had a problem doing it that way.
