Color Sampling 4:4:4 when using a laptop capture?

I have just read an article by barry about color sampling and it has opened my eyes to alot more things. I was wandering if to get true color 4:4:4 that I can use a hard drive to capture video. I'm not even sure if it's possible to capture with the dvx without the tape...Does anyone know thanks :)

Can't be done. No camera outputs 4:4:4 (except through dual-link HD-SDI, and the cheapest camera offering that is the Red One, and even then the feature isn't even enabled yet).

There was a way, the Andromeda, but it's off the market now. You can occasionally find a used Andromeda available for sale used in the marketplace. It was a modification to a DVX100 that allowed 4:4:4 capture.

The HVX gets 4:2:2, which is as close as any video format comes.
That's what I meant :love4: Can't cameras just record pixel for pixel? I feel cheated from video cameras if what it sees isnt the real picture...That's another reason I didnt buy the HVX because they pixel shift...and lack of money :)

No camera records "pixel for pixel" because the image sensors are all monochrome! If you recorded every pixel the sensors saw, you'd have a black-and-white image. They all have to use either a Bayer pattern or a stripe array or multiple sensors in order to even make a color image.

And all three-chip cameras use pixel shift; it's just that with the HVX they use it more aggressively than others.

Yes I mean I like the way Panasonic use 3 CCD RGB so they put all that together to make the picture which is great and one good reason I have stuck to Panasonic for even my handy cam...I am now an owner of the DVX and hope to learn alot...I've been studying here and wiki for some months so all I need is practise now. I will take those scene file settings with me and try to practice myself :)
