thank you
i tried the 720p/24p and the same thing happen it will open only in 59.94 , so please what should i do , is it ok , is there somethig im doing wrong
thank you
If you shot 1080/24p you should be able to use the 60i setting. It's got pulldown there for you already. If you shot 1080/24pa, then I think you will be s.o.l. with AVID as I dont' think it has 24pa support yet (still).
But, you typed 24p I just noticed, so you should be good to go in the 1080/59.94i setting.
Avid can remove pulldown on capture from tape; however, there is no pulldown removal from imported clips, such as P2 MXF media. Apparently, that's rumored to be a capability included in MC v3.0.
This document outlines which project to use for your chosen HVX shooting format.
cbrougham, according to that document, we can edit 1080/24pa in a 1080i/59.94 timeline? Would it look bad?
I have a few commercials I shot in 1080/24p and edited in 1080i timeline, but when I pan left to right, there is always this "pulsing" that ocurs, and the interlacing lines are just, well, disgusting!
u have to remove the pulldown off the 1080i to get rid of that stuff. there should be a pulldown option under settings you can mess with. if u shot 24p, and not 24pN, 60i is correct, i've been editing 720p/24p timeline as a 60i project and have run tests and quality and export is just fine. avid recognizes that it's not true 24p, and is faked with pulldown so it puts it in a 60i project. avid tends to like everything uniform in its own universe, framerates, resolutions, everything, and well either not work or force something to make it compliant with its universe.
it's really annoying like that, but they do it to protect you ironically.
also i've mentioned in another post, if u shot 720p and are running into workflow issues (i haven't but it's a huge factor if u do) u need to transcode your 720p footage to high resolution mxf. avid doesn't truely support p2 720p for some reason. 1080i it does fine and can injest dvcpro hd just fine, but when it's 720 it wasn't really built for it. on import you'll see that it won't ask you what it should transcode to, it just lets u import the files. if u shot 1080 it asks you, so go figure.
if u shoot 24pN, i believe u can have it on a 23.98 timeline... because that's giving you the true framerate.
xmephestox, I'm familiar with all the 720p stuff, but I'd like to upgrade now to 1080/24pa, and according to most things Ive read there is no Avid support for 1080/24pa...?
I've had real bad results with the 1080/24p. Tons of "pulsing" on movement, (nothing to do with shutter settings either).
What had to do recently was use this to remove the pulldown in my MXF 1080 24pa files and then just open the resulting 1080 23.976pn MXF files in Avid. http://dvfilm.com/MXFX/index.htm
avid CANNOT remove pulldown from 1080 24p or 1080 24pA. the only option that it will allow you is to work with the footage in a 60i timeline.
dvfilm.com makes a program called raylight mxfx that can remove the pulldown from 1080 24p and 1080 24pA dvcproHD mxf files. these then can be imported into avid into a 1080 24p timeline. at the moment this is the only way to edit on a true 1080 24p timeline/project in avid, there are other ways like going through other programs to remove pulldown but its a much worse process
the pulldown options you may see in the 60i project settings are for film only and will not remove pulldown or anything, they are there only if you shot on film, edited in HD 60i and plan to go back and master on film.
avid COMPLETELY supports DVCproHD P2 files, they are one of the few edit platforms that support them natively meaning you do not need to transcode and should not transcode them just to edit. to work in a 720 24p timeline, you need to shoot with the HVX set to 720 24pN, if you shoot it an other way (720 24p or 720 24pA) then you are stuck once again and have to edit in a 720p 59.94 project(unless you remove pulldown through some other film like raylight mxfx)
avid can work great for 24p, you just have to be completely setup and know your workflow and how the HVX and avid work together. ive done many different workflows with the HVX and avid and they go great together, theres stuff that could be improved on but thats the same way with all NLEs
Thanks for that info guys - exactly what I was looking for!
Danimal, would it be possible for you to post a quick workflow for using raylight and Avid - I plan on purchasing and using for a project I have coming up. Thanks bro
He demos with the PC version but the Mac version works exactly the same.
MXFX can add or remove pulldown of all kinds, change the frame size, reduce noise, flip the image for 35mm adapters, all kinds of things. You can convert 1080i60 24PA to 24P with standard 3:2 pulldown for example.
