New products from Redrock on sale.

One of my favorite things is the option for different colored accents on their mattebox.
It looks slick and flashy and a marketer's dream, with the blue accents.

But with that said, the first thing any serious shooter would do is paint/sharpie/tape over those. You don't want to see blue bits reflected in whatever you're shooting! Redrock said they'd have black as an option, and that's what I think most any pro would order. Unless you're a Zacuto fan, of course, because then maybe you'd order the MB with red accents.

Any chance this Mattebox will work with the DVX Anamorphic lens?
I sold my anamorphic a long time ago, so I can't measure it to answer. But the RR is, I believe, 146mm inside diameter. So if the anamorphic's smaller than that, diagonally at its widest, then yes it might very well slide over the anamorphic. You might have to do some manner of custom "doughnut" to block out light around the anamorphic's square hood.

Dude, fess up. You love it because it's the RED-rock!
I totally razzed Brian about that, wondering when he was going to change the logo to REDrock Micro, etc. They obviously are targeting Red users, as well as all the rest of us.

Thing is, this mattebox seems grossly underpriced compared to everything else out there. Red users could probably afford to pay $2,000 for it, and -- as a Red user, I have to say I'd find that reasonable. I went shopping for quotes on an MB-20, and I'm really glad I didn't go through with it. Not that there's anything wrong with the MB-20, it's a gorgeous and highly functional piece of gear, but... dang... this RR is solid and so affordable. I'll have to put one through its paces for several days before I could give it a definite thumbs-up (hey, everyone puts their best foot forward on the first date!) but if it performs like it seems it should, I'd endorse this product highly.

Glad a lot more people got to see it! For a second there I thought I might be the only one tattooing its silhouette on my left shoulder. :P

Like I said before, should be at least 2499.99... To be able to pick up a base package for 600.00 or so? Pfft. Brian's insane and we're reaping the benefits.

The Anamorphic lens is 5 inches wide and 41/2 inches in height. Any chance this Matte Box would work with the anamorphic?

Kholi, I have a reservation so if I don't use it I'll give it to you (if that's possible)

y0 Mang! I actually have a pretty high reservation I believe. Just gotta grab it. You should get your Mattebox, man. Get at least the base then grab the other stuff later, if you cna.

It's so niiiccee.

I checked it out as well. Man I wish I had waited a few more weeks. I purchased 2 Cavision 4X4's and they are nice but the swing away on the redrock box is sick. Looks like I may have to sell a few .6 Wide angle adapters from my old XL2 to buy one. Still in shock of the low price. I mean most boxes are the one thing you dread purchasing knowing its going to take a chuck out of your gear budget.

By the way Barry it was nice to meet you in person!

yeah french flags are on aisle 9 just past the filter trays and across from the 15mm rails and mounts...
:grin::grin::grin:

At FreshDV we tend to be skeptical about "indie" priced gear, but I have to say that the solution Redrock has built here is quite impressive...particularly considering the price point and featureset. It's clear that Redrock is elevating itself as a true cinema accessories company. This looks like the mattebox to beat, IMHO. If you missed it at NAB, here's a video segment on the microMattebox that we shot with Brian Valente: http://www.freshdv.com/2008/04/nab-2008-redrock-micromattebox.html

Anyone know how to rig that top handle?... Ive always wondered if its okay to hold a 35 adaptor rig by the cameras stock handle - too much weight? How many people are ordering the limited edition top handle? Are there any alternatives?:undecided

Thanks

I also didn't get to see how they rigged that, wait, are you talking about the blue grips?
