I'm keeping my HVX, it's making lot's of money.

I'm keeping my HVX, it's making lot's of money.

I'll will be selling my DVX-100A though.

The question for me is Red Scarlet or HPX170.... Actually, the HPX500 could be a contender as well. The course of my business this year will determine this decision. That and of course making sure (excluding the HPX500) that these cameras live up to their specs.

Bye bye tape.

Just sold my HVX but not because of the recent announcements. If I have a project ready next September and the HPX turns out to be PAL/NTSC switchable I might going to buy it....

I voted "Not Selling the HVX" THEN read Barry's 170 article, argh. Actually the biggest deal for me by a longshot is the lowlight improvement.

Brennan, you made me laugh.
Thanks,---I needed that!
All so true!
All so freakin' true!!!
I go the Varicam brochure!
But I'm still married to my DVX100a.

What of those of us who are keeping our HVX200 and also purchasing the 170?

Better S/N, FW plug improvements, half stop better and better low light, lighter and smaller.

Just that darn LCD!!!!

I'm one of the ones who sold my HVX200 to get a 200A. Even with the 170 right around the corner (which I'll be getting as well for sure unless somethin' else drops that's nice, doubt it though) it made sense to me to go for a 200A for the interim of six months.

The DECIDING factor was having the Letus Extreme and RED ONE side by side on a short film. Both had the same set of PL mount lenses on them, T2.1, which isn't abhorrently slow. The HVX200 was not B-Cam, only recorded sound to it but we needed to slate so it had to have a lens on it. How slow the camera was at the time wasn't important but I did go "Hmm wonder what this shot looks like on the HVX?".

I couldn't get any sort of proper exposure with the same setup that was slightly overexposed on the RED ONE.

Combine that with the noisey (dead horse) image at the best gamma's (B.Press is your savior) and it's just unpleasant although acceptable.

So, yeah, it seems counter-intuitive from a financial standpoint to sell the 200 and go 200A for such a short amount of time AND for mediocre upgrades... from a production stand-point (this is probably just me) being a little faster and a little quieter makes it a little easier to get a better overall shot.

That's my experience, though, and what made me upgrade.

Anyone out there considering selling their HVX200 with less than 100 hours get in touch with me I can buy it from you now! I need at least 2 more for a three camera live location shoot we will be doing later on for a feature. must have 2 16 gig cards included min.

i returned my hvx to B&H two weeks after i had it and waited for the 200a to come out, i now have the 200A... very happy.

Nothing like locker room humor to raise the level of awareness.

No hurry here, I just pulled the cord on a Lectrosonics 401 system last night, so I need to start saving my pennies again.

Anyway, one of these cameras might not even be ready until the end of next year... :-) .

Ahhh, the endless gear-upgrade treadmill.

As it stands its just too little of an upgrade in the scheme of things - which is not a bad thing.

It's got some nice bits and bobs, but in reality I don't see anything that would make a whole lot of difference (save the weight difference for the merlin) to my shooting.

The HVX was such a transformation I'm still reeling in the satisfaction of it all.

I sold my HVX a couple of months ago........................

I'm very excited about the 170. Smaller, lighter, better IQ, longer warranty, more features, etc. Only thing that appears to be "missing" is a better LCD. :violin:

Hopefully, the price will be in the sub $5K range with a 16 GB card. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I'll be looking to trade my mint condition hvx200 for a 170 when and if I can. I NEED the low light advantage, and I have no use for tape. In fact, PM me if you want to do this.

Aside from one having tape and the other all P2, what the improvements for the 200A vs 170?

Does the 200A have wider lens and SDI?

I just got rid of my HVX and got a XL-H1. I like what the new HVx200a offers, but I really wanted something with HD-SDI.

What is a USED HVX200 going for, and what does a NEW HVX200a go for?
I might trade mine in ay B@H or something.

Is the 170 the same quality footage at the HVX200a?

Is the 170 cheaper or more expensive?
