RED NAB NEWS THREAD: Scarlet pics are up

It's probably at least a year, maybe a year and a half away. Check back in April 2009 to get a better idea.

Initiating hibernation procedure....

...

Hibernation failed.

What is the color bit depth of the Scarlet going to be?

12bit 3K RedCode RAW?

Yes?

You're asking questions to which nobody on earth knows except a very few people who work at Red. And they won't say. So asking = an exercise in frustration. Of course, if you hibernate for a year and then ask, we could probably tell you!

Yup, pretty good advice. I won't worry about it until next year. For now we're fine with our HVX200s and the image quality is great for most of what we're doing. We're not shooting features with the cameras, most of what we shoot the quality we get is just fine. I like the camera, it's really nice, and you can get great images out of it. It has some limitations but the resolution isn't really the main one to me, 720p is fine actually, I'd like better but it works. It's more about the poor performance in low light, the inherent grain of night shots even when they're well lit because you're going for a certain dark look and the blacks end up having a bit of noise. It's not a huge issue, I don't think the grain is bad, but it's obviously a slight obstacle.

Next year we'll re-evaluate our camera options.

Not a coincidence that those are the things they improved with the 200A:thumbup:

hehe, well yeah everyone complains about that. I've shot two music videos, though, that technically were using the HVX200 in its "worst" atmosphere, night exteriors. Both still turned out great, we had adequate lighting to make the shots work and although a few night shots might have been better on another camera, ultimately I think they still turned out great...

Yes, I was joking.

Sorry for losing time.

Hibernation is a must until the RED People give some more real info, which will be... when?

Maybe during the fall.

I don't know.
