I'd love to skip their lens for a B4 relay and use the included 1/2 to 2/3" adapter and go straight to letus EX, Ult, or Brevis. Will they even offer that package?

letus b4 relay (est $4500) Letus Ultimate (price $4500)
Total is $9000 for a b4 35mm setup. Add the EX3 camera msrp $13,000. Your total cost is $22,000
At that point, I rather eat up some inconvinience workflow, save some little more money and just buy the Red One package. Red One also holds its value extremely well and command very good rental price.
or $4500 (relay) + letus extreme ($1300) + EX Optimization kit ($200) = $6000 + $13,000 = $19,000
P+S technik pro 35 price is $27,000 + $13,000 = $40,000
So, IMHO, if you want 35mm shallow DOF, the most economical solution is still the 1/3" handheld or the 1/2" Ex1.
If you are waiting for your girlfriend, Scarlet to the rescue, better save up for the top of the line $3000+ Apple Mac Pro and $1300 Apple Final Cut Studio 2.

Why do you think he will need a top of the line Mac Pro for Scarlet? It should be less processor intensive than the RED ONE. Plus when it comes out there will be newer Mac Pros out and the current Mac Pros run RED CODE pretty well. Plus you can finish in ProRes until there is a need for a higher deliverable. I also thought the EX3 was going to be around 10k? I am sure you will be able to sell the lens to someone if you buy the kit.
