BIG news from Letus!

Awesome news Disjecta, Hien, et all!

Hungry, zooming in does not create light loss, and why would you think you have to zoom in more?

I dont understand, is it for interchangable lens cameras or normal cameras like hvx ex1,etc.

If for normal lens-cameras how could it possibly get sharper? the existing EX hardly softens as it is.

I can see this suiting BIGGER budget systems like people who own the new sony EX3 maybe?

Am I missing something?

It's for camera's like the HVX etc.
The big innovation isn't that it's sharper ... it's total creative control over exposure and shutter speed with computer settings + better bokeh
This one does things no one else can do at lower price points.

oh I though it did since when I zoom in on my xh-a1 the fstop goes from f/1.6 to f/2.4 and since the gg is now spinning i assumed it was smaller.

must be a limitation on that camera or you have some auto function involved

also ... the spinning element is smaller than in other spinning adapters making for a more compact design...but there's no reason to assume the focusing area is smaller for this adapter than the extreme or others. It's possible. But I don't think so.

The first and cheapest camcorder that will not lose light when zoomed in is the JVC hd100 and the like. All the others cheaper ones lose some light with default lens when zoomed in.

Sure, almost all the professional lens don´t lose light but then the lens cost as much as the camcorder if not more. I was shockedwhen I realized that there ar no fixed lens camcorder that wouldn`t lose light when zoomed.

semi true. it stays f1.8 but the image does get visibly darker at the end of lens. Like all professional lenses I have used!

Yep, you are right. :)

The focusing area is not smaller on this adapter. I did not take it apart and measure it, but I was able to use the same zoom settings on both the Extreme and the Ultimate. and the Ultimate was able to use the full frame of the 35mm SLR Zeiss lenses we were using for the shoot. So you can still choose full frame or academy frame if you wish. :)

Cute... I think Ill stick with the extreme thanks.

Different budgets for different people. Most of us folks are LOW budget.

Not true. The HD100 loses light as it zooms in; it doesn't have a constant T-stop throughout the zoom range. Sure, it still "says" that it's f/1.4, but it isn't actually transmitting as much light at full tele as it does at wide angle.

Same with the EX1. The only difference in this regard between the way the EX1 lens works, and the HVX/DVX/XHA1/etc works, is the HVX/etc actually tell you what your effective stop is, whereas the Sony just blindly says "f/1.8" even though it isn't actually f/1.8.

No fixed-lens camcorders, and no removable-lens camcorders in this price bracket either. You pretty much have to go to a very expensive lens, usually a cinema lens or cine-style, before you get constant aperture across the entire zoom range.

And that's precisely why we can all shoot in HD. It's a trade off but one I'm willing to live with until I win the lottery. :)

Hien and I went to Red Rock Canyon in Vegas. He wanted to watch me film and to see how his new baby performed... I shall let you know very soon. Got a bit of backlog of stuff going on here!!!!

Footage-

Footage-

Ok, so maybe this isn't footage from the Ultimate. I'm still awaiting the go a head form Hien be fore I post the results from the test that Steven and I did. AS soon as I get the thumbs up, I'll post it.

But for now, here is some footage form the Extreme- hopefully it will help fill some time until the footage form the Ultimate is released. :)
