I just got a new macbook - i didnt really think i would need the extra grunt to edit DVCpro's nice format (HDV however is a nightmare on a lower spec machine - you really HAVE TO transcode it etc etc)

BUT -I didnt do my homework properly - there is no express card slot on my macbook (ONLY ON THE PRO) so while a macbook (even an older one) will handle DVCPRO editing no problem

you will be limited to from camera capturing only - no dual adpator p2 option, no P2 card hot swap option!

just a heads up for others so they know what they are getting in to.

You could return the Dual and pick up an old Powerbook from ebay for a couple of hundred bucks and use it for dumping.

Just an idea.

duel adapter is a pain anyway. just buy a powerbook for dumping and keep the macbook at home for editing. also, if you get one of the later powerbooks it will handle dvcpro hd footage no problem so you can view and do ruff cuts of your footy on set.

You can pick up a 12" PowerBook G4 on eBay for about $500 but the hard drives in them are only about 80GB max, so keep that in mind.

just started working for a company that is using I-Macs for editing? I know, why is another question.....anyway, trying to convince them that the hvx and p2 is the way forward however there is no express card slot and of course no pcmia......

is there any other options for taking footage of a p2 card except mounting the camera as a device or a p2 store??

thanks

For a desktop installation (like an iMac) the best device is the PCD20 "P2 Drive", a five-slot FW800 card reader. It's not inexpensive, but it's the most functional way to go.

You can use any P2 camera or the P2 Gear or the P2 Drive or the P2 Mobile or the P2 Store as a slot reader. The P2 Drive's the best for that purpose.

I had a PCD 20 which I sold when I got my P2 Gear. The PCD 20 was nice- FW 800, 5 slots no waiting, but the flexibility of the P2 gear both in the office and the field is better for me and also more $. But hey, I get paid to do what I do so my attitude is NFA. One can no doubt find a P2 store kind of cheap these days....

I just bought an HPX170 and a Macbookpro 2.9 and a dual adaptor, But when I hook it up no icon appears on my desktop. Dual adaptor tells me I have to get the P2 driver ver 1.33 but when I follow the thread to the panasonic site for 1.33 I end of with ver 2 which panasonic thinks supports 1.33 . Where can I get a ver 1.33 to be able to ingest a P2 card into my macbookpro
