Here is a walking stick im building for a contest. The main reason I'm doing it is well insects are cool and I wanted to try out organic modeling this is my first time! Just need to learn Body Paint 3d.

Hi Josh.
The stick bug looks good. The front legs look a little thin but maybe that's what you were going for.

The tree branch looks like it may have too many segments around the radius but not enough destributed over the height. You can set those values when the cylinder is first created but before being made editable.

It looks good from a distance but on closeup it may need a hypernurbs or maybe some noise in the displacement channel with sub-poly displacement.
A smoothing option in there will smooth out the displaced edges too.

Bodypaint isn't that hard once you've done a few unwraps. It can be a bit time consuming though.

Looks good though.

Thanks Raptor for the crtique.

What do you mean by smoothing option? Like a smooth brush?

Josh

No. In C4D, if you look in the displacement channel of a material you will see a couple options:
'Round Geometry' and 'Round Contour'. That has sort of the effect of smoothing out the mesh at the subpoly displacement level. Kind of an auto hyper nurbs based on how much displacement is happening.

Best thing to do is add some noise and play around with it and see how it looks with different settings. The entire hull and cockpit/cabin area of the ship I did in '02' was done entirely with displacement. It can be a usefull tool.

Some Cinema 4d and photoshop fun. Tell you what I think I have a problem this 3d stuff is like a addiction...

...a reflection pass on the table would make it perfect!

? ...there is.

//Well, it's apparent on the lo res version, maybe not so on the hi-res. Correct.

Very well done if I say so myself. Didn't even notice the wording on the can at first glance. I figured the Aquafina was real though, but the can and integrated into the real stuff is very nice.

Thanks a lot Cryogenic. I'm trying to learn 3d and compositing/match moving so I have a lot more creative freedom in my films. I must say this 3d stuff is very addicting its like another level of After Effects.

Nice job on the can comp. The only thing is, the edges of the can are too sharp and they don't blend with the background. If you look at the edges of the water bottle, they're slightly blurred, which allows it to blend with the wall behind it. The edges of the can aren't like that. See what I mean?
