You Tube High Def Code ?

I notice a difference in the post that Barry posted, but I lined both the good version and regular version, and I didn't notice anything...

Clearly there is a difference in the grabs Barry posted - but I'm not seeing much of a difference on my computer - either in Safari or Firefox.

Here are some grabs:

SAFARI:

FIREFOX:

The first one in each is the "HD" version.

Yeah, I get the same thing as Luis using Safari. Don't use Firefox as I find it a little slower.

I tried a few videos, there's a difference, not a big one but it's there at least on my computer. I'll post some screen grabs in a sec.
EDIT: Actually after the test I released just how big the difference between the two is (on my computer anyway).

The one on the bottom is the one with the code applied to the url.

Which...Isn't the RED. Huh?

You guys must think I'm the biggest idiot lol

Haha.
No, I knew what you meant - just funny because of all the videos to use as an example, the one we wound up on was the trailer for a movie shot with a Z1. Far cry from the RED (not that it matters).

:)

It's interesting that in Luis' grabs the "HD" version looks worse. Notice the pixels on the back of the guy's head in the foreground.

Hmm, Kegan and Luis had me thinking it was maybe a PC /Mac thing but I tried it and I'm definitely getting two different versions in Safari (on a Mac).

Huge difference. I want to find out more about this...If this is the future for Youtube, then I may start using it :)

Hm, Jared's got the good video! That's not fair. Maybe it has to do with clearing the cache or something that's blocking our browsers from recognizing the additional code?

Yea this was kinda cool, but it seems to have a big difference on some vids and smaller or not much at all on other ones. O well its worth a shot on the ones that it does do something.

Odds are YouTube is finally realizing their online vids need a quality boost and have secretly processed higher quality and bitrate version of vids....so then they can make a sneaky HI-Q switch someday :P

I just realized what that higher quality bitrate is...click the "original size button" on the right of the video control bar after you put the code in. It doesn't work, because your watching an encoded video for the proper default size. One thing I've always known is when you watch YouTube content, its being stretched by default from a 320x240 flv encoded source. Some people always think some YT videos look like garbage sometimes but they don't realize its stretched, some videos look fine if you could hit that button and watch it at its proper size.
