Going to get DVX100B + letus35- what do I need

Hi All,

I'm a (virtually) complete newbie at film making and I'm going to take the plunge in the coming months and buy myself some kit.

As with most film makers, I'm going to aim for the "film look" / "movie look" where I can (+ where it fits the project)

I've all but completely decided on a DVX100B (I've seen lots of footage and it's beautiful with a 35mm adapter) - what else do I need?

I'd like to convert it to shoulder mount for steady(er) shots some how like with a Zacuto rail system although I wouldn't know exactly what rail to get.... IDEALLY I'd like it if the rail is like the one's on the tripod but maybe has the shoulder pad (and handle?) as well so I can take it off the tripod and get on the move without lots of messing around. - and of course, it has to have supports for the letus + whatever lens + matte box (later?)

What the heck do I need to fit a letus35? - any adaptor rings etc?

Also, when should I consider getting a matte box? straight away?

My apologies for how cringe-makingly naive I am to all of this but hey, you gotta start somewhere and I believe I'm a good learner and have a good eye so hopefully it wont be long before I'm shooting good stuff.

Any and all advice is apreciated, thanks!!

Well, I'm a little flexible budget wise but it's not big - it's out of my own pocket.

Glass wise, I've got some old ass asahi pentax from my SLR days:

f1.4 50mm Super-Multi-Coated Takumar
f2 35mm Super-Takumar
f3.5 135mm Super-Takumar

Doubt if I'll ever be filming in enough light for the 135 to get use though.

Frankly I don't really know the difference between lense types - need a bit of practice to get to the point where I can be like "this shot really needs the intimacy of the 50mm" etc - I don't know what would be a 3rd or 4th les to compliment my other 2 (forget the 135 right?)

Well, you might want to keep in mind that the DVX will be replaced in aboot half a year... but still, its a great camera!

you'd have to check with the guys over at Letus to see if they make a mount for that glass.

yeah I read about the DVX replacement - due septemberish right?

The thing is, I'm just starting out and in all likelihood, the DVX replacement will be a LOT more than the current asking price of a DVX100B (£2100ish).... I'm definitely the kinda guy who likes the latest and greatest - and USUALLY things are revised all the time and the revisions make for a better / more polished product... I can happily wait until September to purchase my camera but I'd need to know if the replacement to the DVX100B is going to a) have features I'd use b) not be too much more expensive

Oh and I checked on another thread, my pentax lenses are screwmount so I just need to go with the M42 adapter from letus... I MIGHT get a nikon adapter as well just to keep my options open....

couold you give me a URL or something about the replacement about the dvx?
I never heard about that......
thanks

thanks.
I'm glad it was just a new camera panasonic was making.

I was thinking more like a dvx100c
hahaha
