BACK STORY
Originally a snippet of an idea for SpyFest but we were just too busy with work (day job work), you know the thing you do to make money so you can blow it all on these short films. But we decided that it was about time we got back into the game of making movies (almost a year now sense we have done anything) and thought TimeFest would be a great chance and our old SpyFest idea worked well into the theme, so there you go, that is the Back Story.

03/19/08
First draft of the script is complete and is now being worked and reworked... it also has about two pages that need to be cut so we can make the time rescrictions. We may be able to shot it as is and cut later... we will see. We have bought some costumes which I hope to post some images soon. We are also looking for crew members if any one in the SD/LA area is interested.

03/20/08
We tricked a grip/gaffer friend of mine to help work on our project, that's about it... nothing too exciting.

04/11/08
Got the Redrock Follow Focus today. We are liking it a lot. Very solid design. We will have to wait to see how it works with our lenses that will be ordering shortly.

04/21/08
We have recieved the all mighty SGPro Rev3 and rails and I'm very impressed. So far a very solid item and mounts pretty easily. The shims configuring was a pain, took me about four times to get the right height. I can't wait to get the lenses so we can do some tests.

04/26/08
Got our Canon Lenses in the mail and they are looking good. We eventually on decided on getting a 24mm, a 50mm and an 85mm. And in the future will start to fill out our collection but until we get the money these will be our standard set. We have done some tests with the Redrock FF and lenses and it seems pretty smooth. THe 85mm is a little "tight" when racking focus but I assume that is just the lens sense the other ones don't do that.

05/03/08
We finally had a chance to do some lighting tests. We light one of the locations as we would later light it (well almost, we need one or two more lights) and did some test with the SGPro and it looked great. I love the look of the SGPro, I like how it softens it a touch and of course the DOF. I did notice that it has an interesting grain pattern that "flutters", most vsiably on the edges. It's not a big deal but the out of focus edges looks like someone applied a "Diffuse" flter in photoshop to it. It possible that it's the monitor we are using, maybe it's having a hard time filling in the pixels in the "blurry" areas.

05/07/08
Not too much to report, just trying to get things done while working day jobs (50-60 hour a week day jobs:crybaby:). We have been cranking on story boards and shot lists. We have chained our artist friend, Kalum, to a desk and forced him to draw page after page of story boards. We personally work better with storyboards. We find when your running around like a head with it's chicken cut off, having a story board to reference saves our sanity and the crews (hopefulyl we will have a crew). We also hope to make an animatic once the SBs are done.

We have also started building air cannons/mortars for our gun shot and blood effects and have started to collect more props and costumes. We have also begun our search for actors.

05/10-11/08
Had a read through with some of the cast and it went great. I hope to take the audio from this and use it for the animatic. We are still looking for our Lead Actor (ohhhh, the pressure). We have posted some craiglist ads and have gotten a few responses.

05/17-18/08
We are almost done with all the story boards, very close. I have started scanning in the ones that are done and have begun cutting together the animatic and it's looking good. So far we have already seen some issues are going to re-work the shots.

We also did some blood splatter tests with the air mortars... looking good and bloody.

Beautiful poster Jeremy. I gotta say that you totally got me with your little opening tag: "from the guys who brought you a bum getting hit by a truck ..." !!!!!

When you say, "you toally got me", does that mean you will stop at nothing to help us make this little film, exhausting every resource in your impressive Fat Monster Empire... no, maybe... Mark, where'd you go, Mark?

Seriously though, hopefully we can live up to our car hitting shenanigans by having not one but three different people getting hit by a car during the grand finale... oops, I told you too much all ready.

Awesome to have you guys in!!! Woo Hoo!

I love the poster and the title! Nice! Very nice!

Thanks Leo. Jeremy and I are really excited to be working with you. After we listened to your demo stuff on your website we both agreed you were the man for the job. Great stuff.

Dude,

Thanks for the comments on my thread. I've been watching yours and I really hope you guys persevere and get it done!

Ever since I saw that sick poster for Red Moon Rising I've been drooling to see what you guys come up with. And the fact that it was an idea that originated for SpyFest has me REALLY intrigued!

Seriously, make it happen!

Later.

Daniel
