What are you looking forward to seeing this year at NAB?

I am looking forward to setting up my ibook and and a poster that says apple in the middle of the floor and having everyone say...Hey that apple booth is really sad this year.

That's funny! I'd love to see a few hundred people doing that. I guarantee that picture would get published in NAB Daily and likely Nightly News.
Call it the Jason gang. :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Panasonic has. I hope to see the HMC150 (I think that's the new DVX replacement) and I hope that there is an upgraded version of the HVX.

I'll probably check out Sony's EX since I didn't get to it while I was at DV Expo in L.A.

I am also looking forward to seeing Red's Scarlett.

I hope that there is an upgraded version of the HVX.

I too am looking forward to seeing SOMETHING from Panasonic. Namely an HVX-200a or an HVX-300 (w/ a 1/2" CCD chipset.....well, i guess a little dreaming never hurt). I mean they gotta show something, right? The HVX users have been clamoring for over a year and now the Sony EX1 has many HVX owners jumping ship. I want to see Pannys answer.

I'm with you Macaholic, the RR matte box, though I can't afford it just yet. and I'm really hoping for the RR Remote Follow Focus. (though I'm not sure it that will be out by NAB.)
Those guys are awesome, I don't know how they do it.

Stuff I'd like to check out:

1) RED Scarlet (the anticipation and speculation is reaching ridiculous proportions)
2) Anything related to an HVX200 successor from Panasonic
3) Anything about a solid state successor to the XH-A1 from Canon
4) Cineform recorder
5) Cinevate Follow Focus
6) Cinevate dolly system

Apple is focused on iPhone right now, and I noticed some pretty impressive video distribution capabilities coming, but just apps to present their new SDK... look for Apple at NAB 2009, most likely pumping some iPhone-oriented distribution models... and I'm sure they'll have some new software we'll all love to put on our dream Xserve cluster.

I'm going to be evaluating 35mm lens adapters for my HVX... they all seem so similar in performance based on what I read in the forums, it must just be a personal preference style decision... and we have a lot of commercials to shoot this summer, so about time I get one.

I want to see the next generation of Flos and LEDs for starters. My guess is that there will be twice as many vendors with those this year.

I know Apple won't be there, but I want to talk to some AJA and Matrox people (and whoever else I can find) about setting up workflow/monitoring/data storage for the RED.

Then I want to peek at the Scarlet, and see what new stuff Panny has to offer.

Apart from the obvious (Scarlet and anything else Red is doing), I really hope we see a new wave of small LCD monitors for production. I've been debating whether or not to just go ahead and buy something like the Ikan V-8000 but I think I'm going to wait and see if anything at NAB really shakes up the market. Some of the homegrown projects I've seen suggest to me that there's a lot of room for innovation and delivering a lot more quality for a lot less cost than is currently happening. At least, I hope so.

First stop, Panasonic: I really want to see the HMC150 and find out more about it.

Things I would hope to discover about it:

(1) Under $4,000 list price.

(2) Same or upgraded CCDs as the HVX-200. Thus, images just like the HVX-200.

(3) Higher bit rate recording mode of at least 20 Mbps (even better, 24 Mbps).

(4) There's a choice between Dolby Digital (AC-3) 64 -> 640 kbps compressed and Linear PCM 1.5 Mbps. It would be very nice to have uncompressed audio.

(5) Time Lapse & Single Frame offered.

(6) Ability to play a clip and the split second you hit RECORD, the camera switches to record mode. (Unlike the Sony EX-1 that requires a re-boot.)
