Hey Guys!
My director just finished editing the final cut on a music vid we shot in Copenhagen, so here it is.
I only did camerawork on this one, together with my friend Gustav.

Band: Sleep With All Your Friends.
Song: I Drink I Fight.
Director: Kristian Foldager.
Camera: Anders Nettli & Gustav Krog Lassen.
Light: Mathias Døcker, Tommy Oksen & Mathias Brocks.
Editing: Kristian Foldager & Anders Albjerg Kristiansen.

Shot on dvx-100/sgpro rev.2. with pentax 55mm f.1.2 and 28mm f.2.8 lenses.

Holy cow.

That was amazing!

Loved the shot just before he drinks the caps. Depth of field switch to bottle cap as it goes flying off, then it hits the cup with nicely done sync to the music.

Great job man!

Robbie

Glad you like! Got to practice my focus pulling on that one as I had to shoot it at f.1.2 :)

great stuff man.. which lens did you use most. the 50 or 28. what was your lighting setup. and did you do any cc on this. but i love the look the shots, the slow mo is great too. like always great.

I only did camerawork on set, so I don't know about the editing process. There was three guys doing the light, and the director edited the film. They put about 5 spots on the band itself and we mostly used 4x1k arri's and one 2k for the rest of the gymhall. We used a couple of portable LED lights as "candlelight enhancers" at the tables. We mostly used my 55mm, and a reason for that was because of the light effiency. We didn't have a lot of setup time because we were shooting at once the extras(which were basicly people the band had asked on the street to show up) were at the set. We were constantly afraid that people wouldn't show up or that they would leave early, so we kinda did this all-in-one light setup in the morning to cover the day by mounting lights were they wouldnt be visible in the shots that were planned out. This of course made it sometimes dificult to get enough light in the "closer" scenes and I had to shoot a lot of it at f.1.2.
The dancing scenes was kind of crazy were I just ran around and improvised while trying to pull focus at f.1.2 while people were dancing to the music.
The smoke machine didn't exactly make it easier for me to see what was in focus or not, but it sure was fun running around like that though :)

Man that was great!
And great mood in the song to!
And I can see that the smoke made it harder for the focus, but how nice it turned out to be!

Great style!

Wow smettli:)
You amaze me. Some of those scenes man, they gotta be like the most cinematic shots I've ever seen with the DVX! Some of it look like it's been shot with a film camera!

Great, great lighting!

And good job focusing with the aperture at 1.2:thumbsup:

And yeah I would also like to see some before and after grabs. :D

Peace
-Tomas

Thanks for all the nice feedback guys!
Though I can't take credit for the light setup as we had guys for that, but it was a very nice collaberation going on between the crew members :)
Don't have any grabs as it was my director in Denmark who edited the piece, but maybe I get can get some if I get ahold of him.
Actually, not more than 13-15 youngsters showed up, so some of them appear in several shots with changed clothes and some of the crew members also filled in the backgrounds from time to time.
The youngsters were nice kids and the director didn't seem to have any problem with the organizing at all, they just kinda stayed put when we weren't recording.

Thanks again!

Personally, I'm cringing a bit when the camera is too steady as the artifacts of creating slow-motion becomes more visable, especially in the bright reflections on the bottles and so on. It's like the image is staggering and jumping. However, when doing moving shots, the slow-motion looks really good and you don't notice the artifacts that much. So it's just good to keep in mind that static shots aren't the ideal thing when doing 50i to slowmotion convertion, unless the image is really dark :)

Thanks!

Smeti, unbelievable man. I wish i could turn on the tv and see music videos like this one.

Brilliant camerawork, as always. Great compositions - especially considering the pressure of working at that aperture, so much "processingpower" goes into keeping things in focus.

The editing is well done too. Slo-mo looks solid. Looks like a speedramp was used just as the kid enters the restrooms - would have liked to see more of those, works so well for this type of music/story.

Great performances by the kids - if they just randomly showed up that must have required great direction aswell.

Is the guy getting dumped holding a Swedish flag? Looks like it, but the CC makes it hard to tell. If so, thumbs up :)

If you ever need a backup SGpro when in Copenhagen just shoot me a PM. Live about 300meters from Sunscreen Prod.

Please post here if you hear about the video getting any airtime on Danish TV - would love to see it. A shame DR1 pulled the show "LIGA" - this video would have fit right in.

Cool!
So you know about the production company, and another fellow sgpro user from Denmark, I wasn't aware of that :)
You should let Sunscreen know that you exist, cause that's one of the main reasons he wanted me to come down and shoot, because I was the only one he knew that had experience with the dvx/sgpro setup. They have the dvx/sgpro setup themself, but I brought my own to be sure about the image I was getting.
You are right about the speed ramping, it speeds up during the pan in the shot and goes back again.
Tjhe director(who runs sunscreen) and the crew member on set was former students I went to school with in Ebeltoft, so everybody knew eachother well and had fun. The director was very engaging with the kids and made sure they did the right things.
And yes, that is a swedish flag you see. The girl in the band is swedish, so they had to be included as well with the danish flags :)
It's a shame there is not a lot of danish music programs, but I'm sure the director will try handing some tapes out.

Thanks for the comments!
