Yea.. Cool technique I came across yet the labor was intensive and depressing. Let's just say for every 2 seconds that she was in black&white took me two hours to fully edit.. N she had a screen time of about 10 minutes or so.. So all together just to CC the B&W in her took me a total of 4 months to piece together as accurate as possible. I had no life what so ever working on her...

You ever heard of those drawing tablet/tables thingies. You can just draw on a screen and it rotoscopes for you.

The roto you did on the first girl, was fantastic. The eyelashes looked great for around the edge detail!

Wow, that roto work looks extremely impressive. I'm confused though, with that amount of effort put into it would green screening it have not been a much easier way of going about things?

Green screening yet. But keying out the green isn't the greatest with SD footage. Actually, I think I got better looks with my little 1CCD camcorder than my DVX, but that might just be me.

HBlack's got a point, but I still think that roto-ing would look nicer? Just a hell of a lot more work.

Thanks! Yea I definitely used a 12x12 drawing tablet. It is impossible to use the mouse. The tablet allowed me to work ten times faster rather than having to use the mouse. This was all edited on Sony Vegas 7. With the mouse it would have taken me forever. I tried to consider green screen, but I'm very meticulous, and I didn't want to risk the project due to a flaw in the process of green screening. So the end result may have taken a while to edit but it's better than having to reshoot the entire project.

The roto work looks great! It's a total pain, but sometimes it's better to not greenscreen & composite, even if more painful.

Now, you have realistic shadow (b/c it's actually there), no chroma loss due to the horrid nature of greenscreen + DV, and outstanding looking stuff.

The pentabs are great....i really want one of those that are built into the monitor

Exactly!... The film has more of that natural look rather than having to green screen. The pentabs in the monitors are too expensive at the moment to purchase. The drawing tablet itself was close to $300 when I purchased it. Hoepfully it will work with a Mac since I was previously editing on a windows platform. Whenever I have the company site launched I'll put a link so everyone can view the final product in action.

great roto work! great dvx wide shot also!! just curious what shutter was that wide shot at 1/24?

thanks como! i love that biker blur. i'm sure that was on purpose!! great shot man!

Thanks everyone!! From my knowledge the director used either a 1/24 or a 1/48. So Robbie is probably correct on his part. As far as the biker goes, I ended up telling my cousin to just ride the bike across the screen to see how it looks and we end up using the shot for the final edit. Yea everything in the film had it's difficulties of making sure the roto was up to par.
