what if Barry selects half a dozen fest ideas and let's the LoveFest winner (*ahem* Matt Garrett) pick the next theme out of those?

That's a pretty cool idea, but I wouldnt want that kinda pressure. Not that I'd win or anything.... just saying. (BlameThatGuyFEST)
 
Announcements never happen before the close of voting and the announcement of the winners.

For those jonesing for "Noirfest" or "Sci-Fest 2", please keep in mind that you can make a Noir or Sci film based on any theme, and you certainly could have made a Noir DramaFest film, or a Noir LoveFest film, or even a Noir Sci-Fest film (Blade Runner, anyone?)

So whatever gets announced, start planning your sci-fi or noir film anyway. You can make almost any theme work with those genres!

How about Revenge Fest.

From Wikipedia...

Revenge (also vengeance, retribution, or vendetta amongst others) consists primarily of retaliation against a person or group in response to a perceived wrongdoing. Although many aspects of revenge resemble or echo the concept of justice, revenge usually has a more injurious than harmonious goal. The goal of revenge usually consists of forcing the perceived wrongdoer to suffer the same pain that was originally inflicted.


This could fit into any genre that has been mentioned. Just throwing it out there.

I really liked the "theme" idea of Love fest.
 
The more I think about this idea, Revenge fest, the more I like it.

It forces us to create and resolve conflict... something that should be an ingredient in every film/story no matter how short it is.

And I can see it providing a wide range of varieties of revenge. Situations that we would never think of. Like in Love fest, we (or at least I) saw many original tales of love that I would never had considered. It made it fun and fresh to see what the next filmmaker had to offer.

Where as I do think that making a Sci-film would be cool, I may get a little worn with one sci-flm after another.

And a Noir fest could lead to a lot of films that may be just bad because people don't understand or know how to shoot one. (Myself in particular!) Not too say that being "forced" to shoot one would be a bad thing but that may not be the "next" film that I want to tackle.

With a "themed" fest, we are left with the option of style and genre.

Just thinking out loud and expressing my thoughts.

ps- sorry about my earlier utterance of "Sci-fest 2..." I was impatient! :)
