Hey everyone, this is my first post and this forum has been invaluable in my decision to go panny and I suspect (know) that the usefulness is only now beginning.

My camera arrived yesterday and Ive just pulled it out to have a look. Can anyone who reads this please tell me something. In DV tape mode (please dont tell me to use P2, have you tried getting those in NZ?) with the camera powered off, tilting the camera back and forward between 20 degrees or so causes something insode the lens end to move and emit a audible knock. The vendor tells me that the cam on his desk does the same thing but Im not convinced its intended. When powered up the knocking goes away.

If other users can verify this with their cams Id be most grateful.

Cheers.

lol, thanks for that. Ive been browsing this forum for months and never heard mention of it. Now I know its not the flux capacitor <phew>

Indeed... when they switch to making the HVX out of adobe bricks then we'll really have something. Maybe a bit messy and melty, but fun nonetheless.....

I'm just glad I found out about this clunk prior to buying the clunk. Would have make my head go clunk as it does so many others. Thanks to this forum all my HVX needs have been met...

Sigh ...........

C'mon! When will the ban be lifted? We have a sticky and no luck... I think help came faster BEFORE the decree came down from on high.

Be very afraid. The camera must be radioactive (this happens from time to time). Can you contain the leak? Do you have the protective gear?

Jeez.... Panny should put in big letters "The clunk is normal." on the front of these manuals and put a piece of easily removable tape over the tape deck and P2 area, that say the same thing. So we stop getting threads like this.

I think the tape idea is brilliant. Seems like every product I buy nowadays always has some removable sticker somewhere to explain something because they know people aren't going to bother to read the manual; a "clunk" sticker on the lens barrel would probably be a great idea!

I'm suprised you even had to send a request I mean obviously the small portion in the manual wasn't working or they wouldn't be getting so many calls from people that stumbled into the wrong neck of the woods with the clunk threads. It's amazing that they didn't think when they asked us to stop with the clunk threads that hey maybe something is wrong when out customers are getting online and registering for an online forum before they actually notice what we said in the manual

It would be a great idea to have something prominent on the 'read this first' page, then I wouldn't have even had made this post. Funnily enough I hadn't got to the little box on page 860 of the manual before I noticed the clunk and after years of shooting with various sony cameras it struck me as a little bit odd. Also given that the overnight courier took six days to reach me, I was more paranoid than usual. For the less tolerant out there, please forgive me, I will be sure to read all the stickies and do a thorough search before posting. Im off to beat myself with birch twigs now.

Coming from a DVX, I actually felt comforted by that "clunk" noise when I pulled my HVX from the box.

Perhaps the sticker should say, "The beautiful, comforting "clunk" you hear is the mark of precision engineered optics. If you know someone whose camera doesn't "clunk," you might want to warn them that they are using an inferior product."
