Lens damage when shooting into fire?

Hello,
Obviously I am a semi new videographer, my question is will I do any damage to the lens of my XH A1 if I am shooting video of a fire? There will be CU, LS, and medium shots of the fire. Theoretically, I will be shooting into the fire for up to an hour. Will this damage the lens? Are there any filters etc. that I should place over the lens for protection? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I have already learned alot from this message board.

I think the question is how close will you be? If you stay close to the Canon recommendations for environmental temperatures, you should be OK. Check the manual.

The lens is glass. I'd be more worried about hood and the casing.

Unless you are going to be in the fire you will be fine. I assume you are talking about damaging the CCDs? In that case no, I cannot see that happening.

Well, everyone is right so far. But, to provide a first hand account, and to plug my photos and a project I worked on: I was part of a film that shot in Wisconsin, and during the final days of shooting we lit a gigantic bonfire for scene. Camera used was an HVX with a Redrock, but a camera is a camera when you're worried about it going aflame.

Yes, actually, I was more concerned about damaging the CCD's and the lens itself. However, thanks to the pictures posted by mayodaze (really proved the point) and responses by Untripp and Robinette my fears have been put to rest. Thank you for the responses.

mayodaze- can you tell us a bit more about your project? I'm located in Wisconsin, so I should keep track of the competition:beer:
