I recently purchased an xh-a1 and am having problems with the interlace look.
its fine normal but when there is any action in the video you can easily notice it.
i have tried multiple settings and even the easy settings which such but it still looks terrible. could it be in the importing in final cut.
i have tried 16:9 and 16:9 anamorphic and its still noticeable.
please help

Where's anywhere? Have you looked at it on a TV or just computer monitors? Interlaced footage will almost always have "mice teeth" when viewed on computer monitors. This includes TVs connected to computer monitor ports.

If you've burned it to BD or HD DVD and still have the problem, I suspect you have a setting or two wrong. It's important to note that with NTSC, SD interlaced footage is lower field first. With HD it's upper first. Get those reversed and it won't be pretty.

Hope that gives you a place to start looking. There is a way to fix it. I've had no interlacing artifact issues with my A1 thus far.

ahh

ahh

well tvs on dvd and computer monitors.
With upper and lower field how would i screw that up? and how would i fix it.

Ah, technology. Sometimes you don't need to do anything for it to come out all wrong.

Check your output settings. Make sure that they match your output format. For example, if you take HDV footage, which is upper field first, and output it to SD DVD, which is lower field first, make sure that you output lower field first.

You might google around for some FCP tutorials and then play around with the software to see what your different settings give you. There's really no magic bullet here. Experience is often the best teacher so jump in and play around.

Actually, you should never mess with the fields when your footage is 24f. Should always be - none / progressive. If you watched the footage straight from the tape in your camera on a TV it would look fine. Problem is your ingesting it, have the setting wrong then outputting an incorrect setting to DVD, which is not going to change when its then played back.

There is an easy preset that should steer you in the right direction to begin with.
