GOOD|SAM - a minimalist film by hunter richards and anthony pierce

Jared, I will get you the PP CD asap! I got a loan to buy the camera and I rented some things just for this film. Thanks for making an account and posting!

Champloo, Wow thanks. I am really glad you enjoyed it!

Great great film. In my top 3. I liked the subject matter, the kid was excellent, well thought out story, beautiful cinematography, great music, everything. I have no issues with this film. Really well done. Thanks for this and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Wow. Top 3, thanks Champloo

Hunter,
Anthony said it all.
I liked this quite a bit from the cinematography to the acting, especially your lead,
(and the pawn shop guy). Solid acting all around.

Beautiful film. Simple story, focused, yet relaxed execution. Really, really nice work. I got drawn into it immediately. Great use of the city, which I could tell from the grabs. Also, great performances all around, from kids, to the pawn guy who had mercy on him, all great and real and subtle.

Good use of music. though(and I have been a bugbear about music in this fest) I think you can eliminate it from the dialogue scenes in the house, the way you did in the pawn shop. Your scenes are strong enough, I would just let them play, and save the music for his travels, etc.

Good work!

Thanks guys, I could use an ADR session! KenV your hired! I loved all of the different locations for this film, it felt like it was always moving. That at least keeps peoples interest to get over any mistakes or things they dont like.

Thanks again!

I agree. I had a few friend’s watched it at a pub here in town and it was even more distracting on a big screen. I appreciate your opinion.

Good Sam
This has got to be one of my favorites. It’s a wonderful story and told very well. Love the camera movement. Lighting is very natural, not over done. Favorite shots were at about TC 2:22, through the window, when the guys are leaving and drop the trash bag and about 3:37, long shot down the sidewalk. I felt like I watched a whole day in the life of this boy in just 6 minutes, so I was engaged in the story until the end. Great use of music.

Gosh, this boy is a fine actor, and so young. I give credit to the director as well working with a child and getting that performance. Good Job! The ‘hey kid’ guy in the pawn shop seemed very natural.

I like rain! The ending was poignant and so well done. It wrapped up the story so nicely and was an unexpected surprise!

Overall, one of my favorites in this fest. It’s a wonderful story of love, innocence and hope! Great job!

I really like the look of the film. Another film with good framing on the hand held shots. The story had a lot of heart and I always like the concept of a small kid on a journey. This is one film where better audio might make a difference, I was leaning in trying to clearly hear the dialogue. Some adr should easily solve that.

I thought the performances were good and the kid pulled it of nicely. All and all a very nice film. Congrats.

herbalmedia-how much do I owe you for that again?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really would like to fix the audio issues and have an adr session.

Thanks for watching.

We'll call it even considering the great deal I got on your old HVX

Seriously though, the film was great. The reveal at the end felt just right - and that is always tough to do. Congrats to you and Anthony.

Great job on this film. I really can't say much for a critique. You really manipulated me in a good way.

One thing I've noticed about these films, well any film really from no budget to 200 million $ budget is; you can tell if it's good in the first 5 seconds. This film had me from start to finish.

note to self: put a smiley face next to this film on my voting notes sheet

Thanks Will, How are you enjoying that Hvx200 anyways?

Aaron, Thanks for your comment. I really tried hard during editing to make the film keep the viewers interest! Your totally right though, when you watch a film: If it gets your interest in the first few seconds, you get hooked for the rest of the story. That is of course unless something goes really sour.

Thanks for watching the film and your feedback!

what can I say that hasn't been said, I just love this piece, bravo, very touchy and moving, this short could perfectly be turned into a major piece. The look and feel reminds me of Raising Victor Vargas and some other urban low budget features, four stars.

Shot In OR? Love that place!
