"CONSTANCE" Brought to you by BPress- Krew East Side! Mark Harris and Timur Civan.

That said, I am not entirely sure how Constance turns into a series.

you'd be breaking away from some of the mood and pacing you set here, but 36-48 minutes is doable for this. you'd need some subplot (i think something about the cook in the restaurant would be fascinating:grin:) but you could take a lot of your major beats and spread them across episodes.

it's not easy, but this would end up being a near feature that you can watch episodically or through the series as one piece.

of course, you have to like the idea of adapting this to a new format. i can see how you wouldn't want to do that.

I think this story is interesting, seeing how, the common man rises to meet the tyrant. and loses....... which is probably what would really happen....

=), yout film is still great =)

Thanks, I really do appreciate people giving specific criticism like you did. What I do is after the fest, I go through all of the critiques and figure out what did and did not work for the most people, and make adjustments to the film. Sorry I was grumpy, no coffee yet this morning.

Yeah, I started thinking about this today, maybe as the first ep in a series about Conny and the gangster, and if it's only 6-8 episodes, wrap it up with her getting away from him, killing him, or not.

Slowly getting through the films...

I liked your film, Mark. I think I like Katrina more, but this still had the Mark Harris feel to it. It's been mentioned earlier on the thread and it's true, you've definitely got a defined style that is easy to recognize. I love the opening shot; probably my favorite shot of the fest so far. Nice work Timur. The story was good but I didn't connect as much with the characters here; this is why I like Katrina more. Overall, solid work. You and Timur make a good team.

This one was interesting. A little slow in the beginning, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Your style is just that - kind of slow, deliberate, where the different pieces take their time to play out and come together. I'm hesitant to say that you could pick up the pace a bit because I'm sure you played around with different edits and saw what worked the best.

I can see your love for neo-noir in this piece and I think your story and look really do get you there. It's not my favorite style, but I think you are getting quite good at it. :)

I really liked your compositions in the first scene (and throughout). The neon sign shapes in the foreground were a very nice choice. Did I read that you composited that in in post...? If so, wow. The framing on the bed was also nice, with the bed frame cutting across the shot. Good stuff.

I had a few minor technical problems but I'll not go into them as they might sound too nitpicky. Anyhow, nice work, Mark.

Yeah, the opening scene was a composite. I added the blinds and the neon sign in post.

Thanks very much for stopping by and for the comments!

Really good film Mark and I know it's exhibition only but it is one of the best that I've seen. Not a lot to say in terms of critique. Good story, shots, composition, actors...a good piece all around. I'm a big fan of noir and neo-noir so I enjoyed this one. I'll have to check out your other stuff.

I really enjoyed the mood, the acting and the pacing. I didn't like the story, it seemed more of a device to get the shots, but it did look and feel great. The african-american actor was especially good!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment guys:

Shawneous, I am a little flummoxed by this comment. Would you be willing to expand on it a little? I had no doubt that some people would and would not like the story, but if you'd be a little more specific about that reason, I'd be grateful. I tend to use these fests as the last QA on a film, and take away all comments to make the thing ready for prime-time.

I didn't like the story, it seemed more of a device to get the shots...

Thanks everyone!

Hey, Mark. I liked this film. The opening shot was off the chain. That was really good. I thought there was some really good drama here and I really liked the acting and cinematography in the club.

The only thing I saw was that the shot going back in forth in the beginning with him looking through the window seemed too long. Those shots were really cool, but I got the gest (I think) of what was supposed to be happening in that scene after he beat the guy down (that was you, right?). Anyway, I believed the guy was supposed to see the big argument between the guy and girl and the beatdown showed the guy was violent and should be proceeded to with extreme caution. Immediately after the beatdown, that was all very apparent, at least to me, so you could probably cut that scene down a bit and it might be stronger. . .just a thought.

I also really liked the scene in the bedroom with the guy and girl where there was no talking at all, but you could still tell what was going on. That makes me want to do a scene like that now.

Oh, in the bar, with the confrontation between the guy with the glasses and the brotha,’ the brothaz voice seemed to be computerized or really digital or something. I don’t know if it was my computer or what. His voice sounded much better and different at the end, in the car.

I wanted to step back in here and add a few things...

I loved how long you held some of these shots. Kudos on that!
I felt like we should have seen more reflection of blinds obscuring his face but I'll look at the HD version on my Mac to confirm that. Might be my laptop.

The cinematography was really something to watch in this one, as was the perfect framing and lighting.

As I've already stated before... the ending was great.
Really leaves you wondering.

The acting was also very strong.

Excellent work all around. Everyone involved with this project should be proud.

Mike

thanks anthony. makes me feel good. were the any points where you felt the visuals were lacking?

also a quick note, only the bedroom scene and the dockworker scene were on sgpro. everything else was stock lens. im starting to like the stock lens more and more....
