Roger Clemens Testimony....

Wait, I've got it! As long as Congress is wasting their time on crap like this, they're too busy to screw up the important thing. Or at least not screw them up any more than they already have.

What authority does congress really have to have a hearing about somebody using steroids? I'm just failing to see why baseball has anything to do with our government. Just one more f%$!ing thing our government is putting their hand in and needs to get out of.

Go fix something important already, and stop wasting my time and tax money on something that has nothing to do with anything. This is exactly why our country is so f*$%#! up right now.

No idea.

But the issue is whether or not Clemens lied to a Grand Jury,

What a waste of expenses.

I don't watch television so I have a true outsiders perception of what is shown.
While I agree that most television programming is mindless. It's unrealistic to say that there's nothing to be gained from watching television. You can learn a lot by simply observing how shows are edited, lit, the sound design, etc. Saying that there's no value in watching television is like saying that everything McNamee says is a lie. Ok, pretty much everything McNamee says is a lie, but every once in a while he tells the truth. Conversely, saying that there's no value in watching television is like saying that everything Clemens says is truth. Hardly the case.

Americans are way too entertained. That's almost all we care about as a society. As we all know, mass entertainment is dumb and since it has become more and more predominant in American society, Americans are becoming more and more anesthetized to reality and are statistically becoming dumber. We have also sold off most of our industries, real estate and resources to smarter foreign investors while we continue to think that we have cornered the entertainment market for the world, which is incredibly short-sighted and naive to think that we will continue to own that market. Ask any fan of world cinema if American films and television will continue to dominate the world's media markets.

I couldn't agree more with you. Most movies are just product, there is very little art left to mix in with the commerce. I don't feel movies should be pure art, films have always had an uneasy truce between art and commerce but look what we see in theaters and on DVD these days. Yes, there have always been lousy movies but when Hollywood was busy adapting it's best output from novels, theater and literature, it seemed that the ratio of great films vs. filler was much better.

What sells more than film, video games? All of our most siginificant industries seem to be based upon mindless entertainment.

Best,

Dan
I wouldn't point that finger specifically at Americans. Asian culture is obsessed with the video game market. I really don't know enough about TV and such there but are they not fanatical about baseball and sumo wrestling as well? What do I care... I'm Canadian. Oh wait... Hockey! Damn... I'm screwed.

All good points though.

Cheers,

But should he have been in front of a grand jury in the first place? Is there a law stating that it is illeagal to use steroids in baseball?

Total waste of time, news, and expense with all of the other BS going on in the world.

I totally agree. If you want a scary read about what is happening in our society and why, read "The Entertainment Economy" by Michael Wolf http://tinyurl.com/24m8f8

IMHO, even though I am part of the machine that produces some of it, Americans are way too entertained. That's almost all we care about as a society. Seems that I am not the only one who feels this way... From the front page of the NY Times today http://tinyurl.com/2676eo

Sure call me a curmudgeon but it's obviously true, we are living in the age of American anti-intellectualism.

Best,

Dan
