Hey, I thought I would share a recent video I filmed back in October. I just got done editing it in FCP and After Effects (for the film scratches). I shot the whole video using the M2 on an HXV. I borrowed the M2 from my friend Clyde and fell in love with how the footage looks! its amazingly sharp and the footage as a whole came out looking really crisp. Hats off to the guys at Redrock for making such an awesome 35mm adapter.

Here's a link to a Quicktime version of the file:

That was really nicely shot. I was half expecting a band to pop up and start singing to go with all the other "b-roll"! Good stuff mate.

Thanks for the compliments. I just might go out and film a bands performance and cut them into the video, lol :)

Casey... Really liked this piece. Nice mood and feel and love the shot with the glasses held up. My only nitpick is the scratches.. never been a big fan of that, but that's just me. cheers and the couple must be stoked about this.

what lenses did you use with the M2 and did you shoot any interiors... From what my bro has said you lose a whole stop.. and that might be tough to deal with at a wedding...

nice stuff. i have yet to test my hvx with m2..care to share your setting on camera?
thanks..

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, I've been experimenting with different vintage looks and I was testing out one of them here. I am working on making it look more realistic with gate wave and light leaks, etc. I have a lot of people interested in 8mm for their weddings so I am starting to offer "digital 8mm" style footage, I just have to get it looking right first.

For the M2 I used Nikon lenses. The 50mm f1.2 and a 20mm f2.4 (I think) A friend of mine let me borrow his M2 and his lenses. They all worked great and they were crystal clear and sharp as a tack.

Yeah, it is true you do lose a lot of light with the M2 on. However, for the ability that it gives you to get the 35mm field of view, its worth it. For indoor situations I usually crank up the gain....as bad as that may seem, but it does the job just fine. And then when I get around to editing the footage later on I use After Effects to CC it which does an excellent job and the grain from the gain...doesnt really show to much. In fact, all the footage shot before the couple is riding the scooter was shot on high gain ( I hit the switch by accident) but it didnt degrade the footage at all, I was impressed with how it looked even at high gain.

Hey, glad to share settings....

Basically I had the camera on Cine-V mode which gave me a good contrast range. I had all other settings zeroed out except the sharpness, which I set at +4. Everything else was done in AE to get the dark colors, etc.

I found the increasing the sharpness when the M2 is on gives it a very clean look that closely matches the bare HXV w/o the M2 on. I also shot everything at 60p in 24pN mode to get some nice slo-mo.

Cool M2 clip

Cool M2 clip

Omg. That clip makes me want to go out and get an M2. Either that or get married (j/k).

Lol, awesome! either one would be cool. I would vote for the M2 if you haven't found the love of your life yet :)

For me...I'd want to get married and then have someone film me with an M2 at the wedding.

Nice piece! How did you shoot 'em on the scooter? it's glass smooth. Did you use any stabilizers?

That was beautiful. I've seen alot of adapter footage on here and although it's all been good I hadn't been entirely sold on getting one. You just changed all that, some truly gorgeous shots in there.

Well done!

lipslide - Thanks, Im glad I could help out with your decision on getting an adapter. The M2 is awesome, its almost like having another camera. It opens up a whole new world.

jlbunnell - Great compliments, yes his wife is awesome! she rocks.

Scott W. Smith - Thank you!

jinks - I shot the moving footage literally sitting in the back of my car aiming out the back with the widow open (I had someone else drive though) I had the camera mounted on a tripod, that it. I think mainly it was the road that helped the most with getting the smooth footage.

LAKEVIN - the name of the song is 'Rangers' by 'A Fine Frenzy' I love the song as well. A fine frenzy has some very good music. Another good one is "You Picked Me"

Casey!!! Awesome footage!! OMG. The colors are wonderful, how much of it was post CC? Also, what was the scene file settings you used? I would love to get something a quarter as good as that in terms of the look and color. Hope to see more from you Casey!
