Wonder what the next fest will be...

hmmm... epk/trailer (aka "sizzle reel") fest. could i just re-submit by behind the scenes for Matty_g's lovefest entry?

or maybe one of the pieces listed here... www.sabicreativeagency.com

actually, i think this is a great idea, and not just because I do it professionally and think I could win it all (kidding!) :) but because learning to brand and market yourself and your ideas is very valuable.

That was the other term for it: Sizzle Reel fest. =D Thanks, Forsman, for reminding me of that term.

You know, EPK/Trailer Fest could actually have 2 rounds...

First open to all, as sugested above - which in itself would be cool. AdFest was great, and another short one would be fun I think.

THEN. The top, say 5, after a standard general vote, get longer (15 - 20 min perhaps? [or even more? 3 films at 45 mins?]) to actually make it as a 2nd round, with voting and a grand prize. (The rest of us could then have a new regular 'fest alongside this stage)

Ooooh first two round fest on DVXuser? That's actually a REALLY good idea. And a real treat for the viewers, as there could be five (5) ten minute shorts. But, the grand prize would have to be worth it for the filmmakers.

You keep posting that website and I want to watch the reel but it has a password.

You love to tease sir.

that's because its full of content I produced for the studios. And they would not want me distributing it freely on the internet.

So here's a question, if we stuck to using a theme instead of a genre, what theme would people like to do?

Loss?
Sacrifice?
Victory?

Ummmm, I'm not even sure if those would be good themes, but it's the only thing that I can think up at the moment.

I think out of those three, loss or sacrifice would be good options. I do like genre though. Gotta say, not a big fan of more than one round though. It's a cool concept, but I think actually implementing it would be difficult.

Let's just assume that we're all going to think we'll take home the grand prize. Each one of us would make our short script and then go on to making the 15-20 minute script. We'd all arrange our talent, locations, catering etc and then wait to see if we get in the top five or so before we can actually go into production?

I know many of you will say that it's all about making the movie! ...which it is, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be annoyed if I went through all that work for nothing. I probably wouldn't have worked on a love themed movie, had there not been this contest. That's just me though...no complaints or anything, but I think there'd be a lot of complications if we went about doing it with two rounds, expanding the movie/idea into a longer version, etc.

Just my thoughts and not very well formulated I might add,

Good points Kegan, I can see it in the DVXuser Job forum now...

"Looking for cast/crew for a short project. No/lo-pay. It's a really interesting project that will most likly lead to a feature....."

Thanks Mikko haha - that's exactly what I meant. Oh and another point, I thought I'd add - the prizes, like mentioned are already worth it. I mean the contest cost nothing to enter and the prize packages are valued in the thousands.

I understand what Kholi might have meant though. A lot of people put tons of money into their productions *cough* JDS *cough* haha and obviously expect some sort of return. The fact that our movies can be entered in other festivals after we're done with each fest spreads out the value even more and should make us put more effort into it, thinking outside this contest.

For a 10 - 15 minute short competing in a bracket of five I honestly think that's a bit more than shooting a five minute. Lots more time, lots more effort. That's what I meant.

Prizes are already worth it, just sayin' that for somethin' like Sizzle/Trailer/Epk Fest on a two-tier contest basis (SPECIFICALLY for that fest)... =D Maybe a production deal?

YAYA!

I'm not trying to be the guy that just cosigns on everything but I think the trailer/sizzle reel fest would be a great one too. Of course, Love Fest was my first ever so I'm pretty much open to going anywhere from here. I do plan on competing again though because I learned a LOT working on Love Fest and this is a pretty cool community made up of a lot of talented people...you know, the whole thing about surrounding yourself with the type of people you want to be like.

Anyway, maybe we could do a Special FX fest or a Favorite Director Fest (do a film in the style or thematic choices of your favorite director). I dunno...just looking forward to it.

Tarkovsky details and outlines a short he always wanted to make in his book, Sculpting in Time. I would probably produce that.... if we did what youre describing... IdolFest

Kids&AnimalsFest would be incredibly hard. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
