XDCAM EX1 on the road blog

by the way. just booked my flight and hotel for Vegas in April to go to NAB. Hooters hotel?!? tempting but not so great for the taxman!

Hello philip, beautiful work.
*Could you please tell me when you use the brevis if you have to zoom less or moore than with other adapters?
*It seems that it's difficult or not possible to get perfect edge to edge sharpness with the Brevis?

thanks

people are getting perfect edge to edge sharpness on some cameras, including the HVX with the Brevis. I haven't on the EX1 yet. Nor have I with the Letus, almost. But not quite. When the EX1 Letus fix comes out I will be very interested to see if it solves the issue for all adaptors. I think it will!

excuse me philip, I want to say letus, as I saw your footage and sometimes find that problem :

i have had perfect Letus edge to edge on my HV20!! On the ex1 as I said not quite yet.

I find I have to zoom in slightly more on the extreme with the ex1 than the Brevis, but then I havent got good enough edge sharpness with that yet. With a lot of fiddling my edge sharpness on the ex1 letus is pretty damn good. Look at my dungeness short. it looks pretty sharp to me edge to edge!

Philip.

Are you stopping down your camera f-stop when shooting outside with the Letus? That would probably help a great deal until there is a fix.

Lenny Levy

Lenny, absolutely. The ex1 lens with small aperture helps a lot. On Dungeness as soon as the sun went down edge sharpness was no longer as good

new entry on my blog that shows ex1 rolling shutter skew, but also how nice the footage can look handheld running around a lot!

BTW Phil,
I've taken three of you compressed video into Sony Vegas 8b and made a blu-ray compatible disc right from the timeline. It's unreal man!

I thought since the files were compressed so much, they would not transcode for blu-ray very well..... I was wrong. It's looks good. The "protestants 720p.mp4" was only 40MB. The low light bedroom shot does not look as good due to the low compression.

I bet it would be excellent if it came rom the original mxf files.
Have you tried this?

That's very cool. I can't author blu-ray on my mac just yet, hurry up Apple! But I have played then on an HD media player on 47" LCD and love it!

By the way, am coming to Arizona in March to film, will it be nice and warm!?

March is awesome in Arizona. Usually around mid to high 70s (F).

I wonder what's taking Apple so long for Blu-ray support?

Phil, I have just made a blu-ray dvd on my mac with encore cs3. It does full menues etc. Only problem is my blu-ray is on my PC so I have to network over the image file and burn it with Nero.

Results are perfect.
