I've researched - cant find answer. please assist

I've looked for hours (perhaps days?) for an answer but have found nothing ...
My SD footage on my A1 looks pretty bad. (its blurry, strobes, looks like there is a lot of fuzz and edge noise) for example i was shooting some grass and the image is dancing like a striped shirt would in interlaced footage)
I know im gunna get sh*#t for posting this but ive searched and searched. Can someone forward me to a solution?

I know a bunch will respond with shoot in HDV then down-convert. -- well i dont want to do that. I want to shoot in SD and get a good image.

ive read the A1s SD is as good as if not better than the DVX -- ive read its like BETAcam! ive read its excellent SD quality -- these are posts i have READ and I am just not seeing it. (maybe these people are on crAck?)


I am just looking for an answer as to why mine looks like pooo while others have been very pleased with it.. I shot some SD footage in 16:9, 24f, using downloaded custom presets.

i got a Powerbook g4
I am using FCP 5.1.4
Capturing using DV NTSC 48khz Anamorphic thru Firewire.
I tried capturing with a consumer minidv and A1 -- still same results.
Ive played footage back on Mac and TV, still looks the same.

Any ideas? Are my settings wrong? please forward me to any threads that have info.

24f huh? If your shooting in a manual setting... what is your shutter speed?
try doubling your shutter for specific framerate.
ex. 24f use 1/48, 30f use 1/60, 60f use 1/120.

yes its true, SD will look awesome once you get it down right.
 
i believe i solved the issue! woohoo!
Since HD and SD are different signals, i had to adjust the SHARPNESS accordingly. The grass looked like it was dancing cause i was using some presets which had the sharpness jacked up a few notches. I nitched the sharpness down to -7 / -8 and it was fine (still sharper than DVX). Im sure you can jack the sharpness up in HD but in SD you got to pull it down.

i looked at the footage with the fix and it was SEXY. thanks for ur reply.
