Feature shot with the HVX200 for theatrical release

According to the RED-Snobs, HVX to film can't be done.

Yes it can. It looks very much like a Super16 blowup.

In this particular case they transferred to 500 ASA stock to have more grain. They had to modify the Arrilaser first but Arri was happy to do it.

Anyone who says that is either completely clueless, or... well, yeah, clueless. I mean, did they see "The Departed"? There was an HVX200 shot in there. Have they even seen an HVX200 blown up to film or on a big screen?

I'm not saying it's going to be better than a Red, but I am saying that it's going to be plenty satisfactory for almost any filmgoing audience.

This looks great! I wish it was going to be shown in the US. Thanks for the nice write-up. Keep us posted on the film.

sbaechler,

great looking film, i wish you the best of luck with it, i was wondering was a 35mm adapter used?

A lot of the scenes were shot in darkness but the black images have no noise. How did you acheive this?

Kind of like if its not a Red.. its crap. Well I know I've said that about other non-HVX cameras... lol

if it's good no one cares. I loved the Celebration. One of my favorite films when it came out.. and still is.. and that was shot on a 900 dollar single chip.

Craftsmen blame their tools.... or hold them in such high esteem as if they do the work.. but they are all just Hammers and thankfully they now look about as good as super 16 did. I shot a lot of it and I believe our HVXs are pretty much as good for a fraction of the price..

fun trailer!

what animal was that running in the night? A hedgehog? Did you have a special animal trainer?

It seems the image of the camera disappeared. Here it is again:

And what the hell have you done to that poor HVX!?

Simon, thanks for posting that. looks wonderful from the site. How did it do in October? Any plans to go to dvd so we can see it?

I'm keen to know how they managed this too, especially as they 'added noise' by using more grainy film stock later.
