P-2 Card Delivery: Is it Panasonic or My Dealer

I ordered a 16 GB P-2 Card from an authorized dealer in July 2007.....I paid UPFRONT as these are supposed to be reliable folks and I have dealt with them before with no problems.

Here were are in February 2008, and I still haven't received my P-2 card.

Numerous phone calls and e-mails have resulted in numerous excuses and finger pointing at Panasonic.

I have had to rent, borrow and steal cards from others in order to complete projects.

I bought an HVX 200 because I'm a believer in Panasonic and the cards...I've been a DVC Pro user for years, and I wanted to make the next step and work with P-2 Cards...not Firestore and/or tape.

So why am I carrying a supposedly reputable dealer and one of the worlds largest companies for over 8 months? $1000 might not mean much to them but it's a lot to a small business like mine. I realize I'm just a small fry in the big scheme of things, but isn't this ridiculous?

I know others who've ordered 32gb cards and 16gb cards from other dealers and they've received their's already....so despite all the press about delays...is it really Panasonic or have I been screwed.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or does anyone ghave any suggestions as to who I can contact at Panasonic to move this along?

Thanks for letting me vent.

cancel your order. and get your money back - shouldnt be a big deal.

i walked into a dealer about 2 months back and picked up 2 16giggers in person

Yeah. just cancel your order. That's pretty lame. Get your money back and buy from someone else.

People have had to wait in the past to get their cards due to shortages, but I haven't heard too much about shortages lately, and certainly not 6 months!

Check with authorized dealers. You can get 16 gig cards in the 850-900 range.

Spec-Comm, Abel Cine, VideoScope USA, etc. etc. etc. All three I just listed are authorized dealers, and sponsors of this site as well. There are many others. Just find one. Shop around. Find the price you like and buy from an authorized dealer from someone who has them in stock.

Jason

Thank you all for your replies.

I cancelled my order and asked for a refund today. I just hope getting a refund isn't going to be an ordeal as well. If they were smart, they'd offer to give me a 32gb card instead of the 16...seems like a good customer service gesture...especially after almost 8 months of waiting and having paid up front.

I knew there were shortages when I first placed the order, but wasn't sure if Panasonic was still having trouble getting them out the door.

Apparently not.

Again, thanks to everyone for their input.

I used to work for a company that had cash flow and credit problems. My boss told me to tell customers that it was the manufacturer's problem and everything was on back order. That sham doesn't last for long.

Your vendor might be on credit hold with Panasonic.

You're probably right.

All I can say is, "never again."
