Ok Ok...but they DO rock the reality world....

So I am here to say that the Hpx500 camera is the no - the - prefect "reality show" camera...shooting 2 of them all day and night right now on a Pilot that my brother and I are Directing and they rock. Look solid and heavy on the shoulder, not that usual shakecam of a tiny light weight prosumer cam, great professional inputs and outputs and a darn good image for the money!

p2 cards are a great idea, but scare the **** out of me every night when I have to deal with 16 of them for the offload..I guess I need some sort of p2 offload deck?

So, anyway...good times, let the cameras roll, hope I don't have to edit 3 hour roll sessions times 4 for a total of 3-4 days of shooting!! :crybaby::crybaby::Drogar-Dum(DBG):

A little "behind the scenes" for you guys to stare at:

Get a PCD20 for the day, or use the HPX500s as card readers for your nightly offload. With the PCD20 you can drag all five cards to a destination folder and come back an hour later and they'll all be done. Overnight you could do the same thing with the 500, load it up with four cards and copy 'em all off. It'll take longer, but you don't have to babysit it all the time swapping out cards like you would with a single-slot reader.

I'd be handing off cards as they fill to a "data wrangler", ie, 1st AC. Each card will be back to you in under 20 minutes. You could roll NONSTOP with 4 cards that way.... now wouldn't that be FUN in post? ;))
FYI - I offload to an external SATA RAID 1 array, for safety.

Obin - for future reference, I do have a PCD20.

Sounds like you're having a blast - can't wait to see some footy.

offloading onto a 1TB raid 1 setup..going ok....I am so afraid of data loss though...

We used that same wireless video set-up on a multi-camera documentary and the Marriage Camp show. It worked pretty well, despite a cement wall between the main room and the "booth".

I think ours were basically headrest monitors too. Enough for framing.

Okay, so how are you guys logging and transcribing? In P2CMS or the NLE? That's one area where tape can work better, because you capture then hand off the tapes for transcription services. Best is having duplicate HDDs - one stays in-house and the other goes off for transcription at a house with P2CMS or P2Viewer.

Looks like a pretty cool gig Obin.

So how are things going with the shoot? It looks like things are coming together nicely.

Are you at liberty to talk about the show?

Thanks for the Camera Brad, BTW for the board, anyone looking for a good package call Brad, good guy, good camera, easy to work with.

It's wrapped...don't think I can talk much about it at this point but it's a Reality Pilot and I think the final show will be good.

I will contact you Brad on monday, so we can get your camera back!
