XHA1 and Steadicam Merlin

Hi everyone,

How steep is the Merlin's learning curve, for someone who has never dealt with Steadicam before (me)?

I'm thinking of renting one out and try to use it with the A1 in a future project...

the learning curve is steep! i got mine 4hrs ago and im still fiddling with it. i cannot perfectly line it up. it keeps wanting to lean just a bit forward and side heavy. no idea why. using the cook book settings and trimming based on the manual.

I rented a glidecam 2000 for my A1 and quickly grew frustrated with the set-up. I then purchased a Varizoom Flowpod. It works well and the lowpod feature (camera mounted off the bottom) and monopod really make it a versatile tool. The weight makes it a bear of a device weighing in at over 12 pounds with camera/weights/Flowpod.
Enter the Merlin. Light and agile. Easy to balance and so easy to use in comparison to the glidecam and even the Flowpod which I like. The Merlin works great and no you cannot quickly switch batteries. Any weight difference is going to affect the balance.

I recenlty purchased the Merlin. I've had it for about 4 days. I used the cook book settings and it still isn't balancing correctly its all wobbly. After the first two days I was tempted to throw it in the garbage. I'm going to spend some time this weekend trying to figure it out but I am curious to know what your settings are, specifically the bottom of the plate. Thanks in advance.
