Cinevate will have a modular relay lens shorter than you'd think. We're serious to the point of having purchased an HPX500, and a comprehensive rear illuminated OSG series/system from DSC labs, for in-house testing of our completely ground-up engineered solution. There will be some surprises in store for the modular Brevis35 that will go along with the professional nature of the relay. I won't say much at this point other than a few microprocessors are involved :-)

being an hpx owner i have been on the look for an alternative and hope these companies make a great competitor to the P&S.

I'm disappointed that the CLA 35 that angenieux/ziess made never caught on.
The CLA 35 had no spinning ground glass and no power supply. straight image for imagetransfer with nominal light loss.

The spinning ground class takes away from the HD look. We can always soften the image ourselves in camera or in post.

So, Cinevate and Letus. Please make an adapter without a spinning ground glass and also make it so that it has the options for PL lenses. Putting still lenses on a camera like this would be a shame.

Don't get me wrong, I love 35 adapters but hate pulling focus on canon/nikon and any other eos/ef/nikon series mount. They breath, have such short range of focus and don't look very professional to a high end client or director.

I look forward to hearing more and would purchase one immediately if I could put PL
lenses on it.

Could you guys list some of your specs that are planned for these adapters?

Actually the reference to microprocessors is to decrease the cost of our unit, while increasing reliability and field tuning ability. These days if you don't have an interface and upgradeable firmware, you're already behind. More on this soon :-)

Our adapter system supports PL, OCT19, Nikon, Canon FD, Canon EOS, Pentax K, Pentax M42, and Minolta MD. Plenty of options there.

All good news. Dennis quick question. Will it be easy to swap say a PL mount over to an FD mount on your unit? For some of my personal projects the FD will be fun and budget wise, but a client (depending on which one) will probably want to see quality glass.

Hey Sponester,

Just so you know the LetusExtreme does have a PL mount and I own one. It's a vibrating GG adapter that you can check out at www.adapterplace.com . The relay will work with the LetusEx + PL mount. (I believe as Hunter has used the LetusEx in his tests with the beta relay unit).

I'm happy to report that backfocus is right for the PL mount. The Letus Corp also sells an OCT-19 mount which I'll be purchasing really soon here.

Swapping out from Nikon to M42, from m42 to PL is a breeze. It's literally two twists of three screws and they slide right in and out. Nothing to take apart. Then you tighten it back down. I've had nothing but positive thoughts about the Letus Extreme from EVERYONE who's laid eyes and hands on it.

John, price is really hard target right now as we're committed to a very high quality solution. All I can guarantee is that like all of our products, pricing will be very aggressive. In other words, the best solution on the market at it's price point.

Noel, your question is a good one and something we've worked very hard on. Because the Brevis has a wide range of user interchangeable imaging elements, it's also important to lens performance the we offer micro-adjustable collimation. To that end, our PL, OCT19 and all SLR mounts use a system that will allow accuracy exceeding 1/300th mm. The Cine lenses are very sensitive to collimation distance and any adapter that does not offer micro-adjustment will likely cause some grief for DP's measuring out focus. Implementation of these features satisfied our number one user request....painless mount tuning. Our cine lens adjustment is separate from the SLR adjustment so once both are tweaked, you can swap lens in seconds, with perfect collimation maintained. Btw, the Canon FD lenses we are using are really impressing me in all respects, aside from focus breathing. The 17X Fujinon breathes noticeably more than any of the FDs ...so I guess it's all relative.

There a few very exciting changes coming to the adapter that will match the professional nature of this application....none of which can be discussed just yet.

"Yeah, letus and cinevate are working on this. And the winner will be swamped with orders, I'm sure. Let's hope it's Cinevate."

Let's hope it's cinevate! come on Letus rules!(sorry Dennis)
Wait unless. Does the HPX have a flip function? If so, go cinevate!
I don't like flip modules. I like the Idea of a striaght tube comeing out of the the camera. But I don't care that much I buy the one that comes out first. ( that is as soon as I order My HPX)

Any word on the letus b4 relay?

I would vote yes in the poll.. can't it seems... so add 46 to the total...

Any word on either one would be nice...

Also I was trying to find the post from the guy from Greece who had a relay with a Brevis... it would be nice just having a relay only.

How long will I have to wait?
It's been close to ayear now since one of these things was supposed to hit the market!

Wondering if the problem is that the adapter for fixed lens is of course a bigger market... so it just isn't as big of deal... for them to get it done...

So there hasn't been much on this front....been patiently waiting for something in the 5k range.

$27k = Owwie :D

The Cinevate multi-format relay lens is the most complex project we've ever done. Supporting both SLR and cine frame sizes (with no crop factor) we were expecting to be launching it right about now. The requirement to use some fairly exotic index materials slowed us down, but the good news is that the MTF and resolution specs are equal or better than any of the Zeiss lenses we sell in terms of performance. Price is still holding at the $2500 mark, with full compatibility with any of our Brevis MP.1 or REV2 units in their "flipped" configuration.

If we were just re-branding a 50mm macro lens it would have been done 18 months ago...but these solutions are nowhere near to sharply resolving a native 1920x1080 2/3" chip, and doing it without significant chromatic aberration issues.
