What is the safest/most reliable way to secure FW connection?

Gaffer tape is an option, how do you do it?
And how do you secure the connector from breaking when bend forward or backward, up and down?

Is it a good idea to fix the cable to the camera- when someone trips the whole camera + laptop will fall.

check out siniarch's fws-01. Anchors it with the headphone jack. That along with a cable wrap securing it the handle should do you pretty good. As for tripping over the cable - thats true for your lights, monitors, and just about everything else that has a cable on set. Be careful and take care to tape cables out of the way if necessary.

In lieu of that, you can also route the cable through the handgrip; pull the velcro open, route the cable through, and velcro it back down.

Always implement strain relief; you never want the cable's connector able to be yanked out, there should be some point of protection before the connector so that the actual connection to the connector is strain-free.

thanx.

What is the max length for FW?

Does siniarch ship to Germany?

Where do I get a right angle FW cable in Europe/Germany (found nothing googling)?

Has anyone made anything like the fws-01, but for the component cable? I really dislike that connection, it is always getting loose. I don't know what it would latch onto, but even a better cable than the one panasonic gives out would be useful.

You can use FireWire repeaters. We have rented Kramers from Birns & Sawyer and had no issues with taking the output of an HVX about 50 feet to an AJ-HD1400 in another room, but yes, without repeaters, the max on FW is pretty short.

There is a remedy comming soon.

My used FS came without a bracket or holder.

So I designed my own wich is made at the machine shop in the moment.
It not only holds the FS in a handy position it also secures the headphone, firewire and component cabels.

It´s made from aircraft grade aluminum - no plastic.

It will be here in about a week.
If you guys like it I may heve a view more made.

Hi Postmaster, I´d love to see that.

I spoke to Interelectronics today and they promised to build a special FW connector if enough peope are interested.
I start a new thread for that.
