"Love" a new short film by Ted Arabian

PRODUCTION NOTE..............

Set build begins today!

Friggin' cool, Ted. I am envious of your talent and experience with building practical sets. I hope you can show us some pix of construction in process at some point. Building on the Rochester Opera House Stage is so cool. Will you be using their in-house lighting capabilities or will you light this strictly with your own kit?

Ahhhhh, shucks! Thanks Mark.

Well, I have returned from my day at the ROH (Rochester Opera House) and got quite a bit done. Not as much as I'd like that have but I did have to do a lot of figuring out and planning on how to use the space to my best advantage.

And yes, Mark. I am using the in-house lighting system. I am SO excited by this as I won't have c-stands all over the place! Everything (or most everything at least) will be hanging in the air. Should make for quick set-ups between shots.... not having to move lights and stands.

I did take some photos. I will post some as soon as I can.

Right now, I have to go jump in the shower and head off to perform. (why do I agree to do these Musical Murder Mysteries???)

Okay.... Photos to come.

Thanks!

-Ted

Okay.... One QUICK photo but then I have to run! (I am hoping that the place I am performing at tonight has Wi-Fi... then perhaps I can put up some more photos.)

Just for you Blaine!

Really looking forward to your pix, Ted. This is actually going to be very interesting to see, as I'm not familiar at all with how you'd go about using a true professional stage lighting location. That ladder is dope!

Yeah, and I do????

haha!!!! I PRAY that I can do this correctly! I so acclimated to lighting for the stage... how to use this system for film is going to be a first for me! It's like I told my wife, if I was lighting a theatre production, I wouldn't be worried. BUT with this being something of a first, I am VERY NERVOUS about it.

Not to mention that I am pretty darn nervous about THIS shoot in particular! NOW THIS IS A FIRST!

Mark Harris..... Yep! Apropos name for that ladder. It's not bad in this stage.... it's when you raise that center section straight up 10 feet and climb that! YIKES! Makes the stomach turn.

Okay, I need to put up a couple of pics.

back in a sec.

Set In Construction

Okay..... This set is NOT DONE. The LIGHTING is NOT EVEN STARTED. I JUST turned on what was in the air. This is in progress BUT you want pictures!!!

These shots are an example of some of the framing that I am going for.

Okay, there you go..... I am back in the theatre tomorrow and should be able to posts some pictures that may show off the lighting and a more complete set!

Thanks for the interest!

Well, had another day in the theatre. Set is almost done. I have photos but not on my computer yet. I'll get them up tomorrow morning. Beat dead tired right now.

I almost had to bail this fest as the Hillary campaign tried to hire me to do Massachusetts. Thankfully, they opted for a lighting vendor down there. I would have loved the money but I was bumming that my film was going to have to be halted! (don't worry Jim, I will not accept work during the dates I have promised you. I would only do this to my own dates... BUT, it is a non-issue and filming should go as scheduled on Thursday!)

Okay, tired and hungry. Talk to you all tomorrow with new photos. There are some photos 2 posts up if you haven't seen them.

Thanks Ted,

Getting the cast and crew together at once is half the battle on these shoots. glad to hear your set is coming along.

Interesting look you've got going there T. I am very interested in seeing the pre and post lit shots. Take a look at the shot I put up of our Father from todays shoot. I am discovering how hungry the HVX is when it comes to light.

Hey Will. Nice grab on your thread.

Gotta tell you that I keep hearing about how hungry the HVX is for light... makes me a bit apprehensive to get one. I love how the DVX handles low light.

As for the lighting on my set, I am going to be working on that today. Yesterday, I pretty much got the set how I wanted it. It was fun yet challenging to do.... being able to move the doors where ever I wanted was both a blessing and a curse.

I kept my camera on sticks during the entire build process.... framing the shots and moving the doors to where I wanted them. I'd move the doors a foot left. I'd move the doors a foot right. I'd move the doors out farther. Like I said... both a blessing and a curse to have the options. BUT I am not complaining!!!

I have to get the pix off my camera, crop them and then I will post shortly.

Back in a few!

kimanderson..... um, Thanks! :)

Okay.... these may not look different from yesterday but there are some subtle differences.

Also, I believe that I will be cropping to 2.35:1 for this film. We'll see! (I am always concerned about headroom in this aspect ratio!)

Please keep in mind that I have yet to "dress" the set with nick-nacks and such. Gotta raid my house!

Today I will work on the lighting AND celebrate my wife's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY LOVE!)

Tomorrow, rehearsal with actors on set. Rehearsal with camera assistant on set.

Wednesday, work on West Side Story set (gotta earn the bucks!)

Thursday, SHOOT!

Friday-Sunday... work in Boston with Bosindy!!!
