yay! was kinda hoping this would happen soon as I have a project coming up in a few months that will involve alot of HVX footage in AE. Thanks for passing the news along!

Real nice.

Now how do you import MXF video files together with a sync audio file?

That's what I don't see being available.

There are probably other ways but I went for simple:
Just drag your video clips (using windows explorer) into your project--the rest will take care of itself automatically.

Best.

It doesn't.

The video comes in but there is no audio track

Are we talking about the footage from the FS-100?

If we are then you must Organize P2 first.
Utilities>Organize P2

Prior to Organize P2 all my clips were not synced and I would have to manually do it.

Okay as I do most of my recordings via the Fs-100 I have to say that the MXF files from the FS-100 plays back audio/video in sync in AfterEffects. I just confirmed it .

However when I loaded an MXF file from my P2 card into AfterEffects the audio does not even play. AfterEffects associates an audio with the video , but does not play it.

At this point I am not sure if its a firmware issue or compatibility issue. Anyhow with PremierePro CS3 everything is fine and dynamic link will somehow pacify this for the time being as I can use AfterEffects for only compositing and other visual fx stuff.

I hope someone can figure out what is the deal with the MXF audio in AfterEffects. I don't want to be wasting my time if its a bug.

MXF audio seems to be okay

MXF audio seems to be okay

I just checked with some P2 footage I dumped a couple of months ago into archive, and all is good in AfterEffects with MXF audio and video.

I don't know what it was that made things malfunction in AfterEffects with my audio , but I have a feeling that it was something to do with the file structure or transferring.

I will try to replicate the audio dysfunction with intention, so I know what not to do next time I use the P2 cards.

Perhaps others can post there findings or a list of caveats for the P2 workflow with AfterEffects. I use AE 75% of my projects and I am always looking to improve any way I can.

Unless I manually import the separate video and audio folders, and manually sync the mxf file with the associated audio file.

Not the best approach

I thought I had the same problem but I don't . Sorry if I seem to be hijacking this thread, but my audio problems weren't syncing.

Here is what I discovered that don't work. The MXF file that could not be played back with AfterEffects was when I had switched my HVX200 Channel 1 Audio to Input 1. I forgot to switch it back when I removed the mic so nothing was recording on this channel. My footage appear to be mono although I have 4 channels of audio. Channel 0 is empty and 1,2,3 are good. This file plays back in Premiere with audio/video. AfterEffects only video but associates audio to it.

When I did switch the Channel 1 to Intl1 and records , the mxf file plays audio/video within AfterEffects. I believe the mono audio has to play a role in my mxf situation.

There is more I need to learn about this phenomenon I encountered. More on the audio setup so I think there is no audio syncing problems with AE on my end.

Did anyone try to install the 8.02-patch on a AE Trialversion?

I am using the trial right now, as i havent updated to CS3 yet, i was able to download/install the patch, but finally AE is not dealing with native P2 at all(as it did before...mxf/xml are no valid files, i cant import them into AE)

Same happens when i am using AAF export with p2-files: the edits are recognized, but the files (xml) cant b imported.

Any ideas here?!

(i just have 5 days left with the trial and id like to test the p2 workflow(specially with AAF-import), before i buy the upgrade!)
