I'm confused, and i need you help

huge noise, banding.

lawriejaffa & thefilmaddict & stevet:
What's the problem? You can't live with the idea that somebody wants to examine more before buying?
As i already told: The real trolling is all those threads telling that this is better than that, (specs wars). Often image quality has not much to do with specs.
The only thing i need is a pair of raw samples with both cameras set at -3dB, in low and high light situations.

No one has ever said this is the best buy it. I believe many have pointed out the plusses and negatives quite clearly on these cameras. I posted vignetting issues and frame grabs the day after I bought the EX1 back when it was released in November. My camera still has this problem even after being sent it to Sony.

Why don't you try renting these cameras? Then you can decide for YOURSELF what best fits your needs and what you're willing to live with.
Please let us know what kind of magic do you expect at this level?
What is your budget?

You could also buy one of the cameras and shoot with it, then if you don't love it, sell it. Consider the loss to be a rental/research fee.

Then buy the other.

There's nothing like owning a camera to really learn its plusses an minuses.

It's hard enough to make a judgement based on what other people say. It's even harder based on what other people type.

Also, your topic thread starts with it's between the EX1 and A1, but all your other post, including the "other" forum states the EX1 is to electronic and noisy.

What are we missing here?
It sounds like either you should not of sold the HVX200, or just buy the A1. Both of those cameras are really good.

Very true!

Also, with a new camera, if you buy now and decide it's not what you want, I bet you could sell it quick on ebay.

I think the reason people are frustrated with you is that they put a lot of effort into helping you make your 'decision'. Some of those posts take ten minutes to write. You add up all of the people who have put effort into your many posts, that's hours of peoples lives.

In the end, you are going to say everything is crap. You refuse to realize that all cameras in this class have flaws. Heck, you think the Cinealta and Gensis are crap. Why are you wasting your time talking about lowly prosumer cameras?

People post these long, thoughtful responses to you and you come back and say 'Everything is so crappy, I am so confused!'. Then the conversation starts over.

The shame is, I think you are taking advantage of peoples goodwill and desire to help others.

Please go rent these cameras, make a decision, and come let us all know how you managed to find perfection.

well said oynk. You can compare cameras all day long but the only one that knows which one will be best for you is ummmmm you. nothings going to be perfect and everything has compromises, like it or not.

Oink,

Instead i read all the replies, suggestions and thoughts very very carefully and gratefully.
I thank all the fellows here for their unvaluable and precious help.
Maybe i wasn't clear to say that all those helps sold me.
I just needed a final examen (the noise at -3dB).

But you know what?
I finally found it (YES RAW FOOTAGE BY NIGHT)
I don't know the settings. I only know that the night footage noise is a little bit different but not to make me spend 5k more. The definition is quite different too, but still not worth my 5k. Maybe for others those differencies are huge. For me not so much.

EX1: http://www.slashcam.de/movieclips/EX1/slashCAM-Sony-EX1-Clip-79_1.m2v

A1: http://media.dvinfo.net/canonxh/24fhndynitetaxi.m2t

I think that in my case, the A1 wins for those reasons:

Resolution: sufficient for my needs,
Noise: average
Colorimetry: my preferred
Settings: i can almost avoid cc
Price: i can buy tons of Nikons and lights.

However i have time to still change idea, because the EX1 full HD resolution, workflow, codec and age can be winning too.

Thanks to all for you help and see you soon with fresh footage from one of the cameras... :dankk2:

The A1 is an awesome camera.
I almost bought one myself.

Im glad you made a choice.

Whatever camera you buy, its not going to make or break your project anyway.

Bill and Tom - your average dudes

TOM: Hey Bill you want to go see that new documentary shot in the swiss alps?
BILL: Sure Tom, what time does it start.
TOM: 2 ... Now just wait a minute!
BILL: What?
TOM: This was shot on an Canon A1.
BILL: Are you kidding me?
TOM: I know. Everyone knows the EX1 has better resolution.
BILL: Well that settles it. Let's go.
TOM: Where are we going.
BILL: To see a movie.
TOM: But you said...
BILL: This is a different one, it was shot on Red at 4K.
TOM: Holey crap! Let's go!

As they exit

TOM: What's it about?
BILL: A man leaves a piece of bread on his bench and mold grows on it.
TOM: Cool.
