guess who may direct the next Halloween...

The Tarantino rumor was squashed awhiles back.

Zombie is fresh. Better than any techno gloss bullshit PG-13 horror we usually get

I agree with John. Rob Zombie is the freshest set of directorial eyes that we have seen in a long time. He is one of the ballsiest directors working today and his talent is beyond description.

In my opinion The Devil's Rejects is one of the finest horror films to come out within the last couple of years. Truly an incredible film with great dialogue, shooting styles, camera movement, and acting. It is also helmed by one of the finest writer / directors working today.

This Holloween film will redeem this franchise.

The Friday the 13th remake/reimaging (whatever you want to call it) is on hold indefinitely. There are some rights issues to clear up. New Line bought the rights to the character Jason, but Paramount still owns the Friday the 13th brand and they are currently in "negotiations."

Actually the Friday remake is on the last i heard.

It's being done by Michael Bay's production company the same guys who did the Texas Chainsaw Remake.

I'll try to find the article with this info.

At the risk of getting flamed here. I think Halloween should be left well alone.

The once original, but extremely lean concept, has been milked so much its udders are raw. If they must do a "its a guy with a knife" movie then dont tarnish the original more than it has been.

At the time Halloween did something quite fresh, if you want to honour the film do something fresh too, not whip michael's corpse with a toilet chain for 30 years.

I actually prefered the idea of making a 'halloween' movie every year based around that night on totally different themes. Ok 'season of the witch' wasnt great but this is a much better idea for a franchise which actually encourages new ideas and directors.

It varies day to day. One minute Friday is on, the next its off. Last I heard it was ON, but that could have changed again if Paramount decided they wanted in (ie: a cut of the pie).

I think there COULD, and I stress this word COULD, be an interesting resurrection in the Halloween series with the right creative team, ie: one that won't just stick to the formula and basically just be a body count movie. I always felt there were interesting ideas left to explore in the Halloween mythos but the sequels all tended to just rely on the slasher formula (I mean, come on! Michael going after his niece? zzzzzzzzz.....)

What I like about Rob Zombie is that his style is grounded in the 70s horror film. Its what inspired him and what he likes. His vision reflects that in a way that I think is more than just a pale imitation. He brings something new to it. I think he is an interesting choice to come to a series that has 8 entries already.

I think it would almost, again ALMOST, be cool to see other "names" tackle the series. Imagine a Tobe Hooper Halloween or Wes Craven Halloween... almost like Masters of Horror. Maybe if Zombie pulls off the impossible such a notion wouldn't be so far fetched. Of course, it is just a horror boy dream of mine to see a Hooper Halloween...etc. Aside from myself the only other director/writer I am curious to see in the Halloween world is Zombie.

For those who have read other posts of mine, over the weekend I went to the Chiller Horror Convention. I saw a fan film "Friday the 31st". I can safely and honestly say that my super 8mm masterpiece "The First Friday the 13th on Halloween" totally kicked the living poo poo out of "Firday the 31st". :-)

rob zombie's first two flicks were surprisingly incredible.

can't wait to see what he does with this franchise.

it sure sounds better than a van sant horror film eh?

I welcome a continuation of all of the films personally; FT13TH, HALLOWEEN, NIGHTMARE, the FRIGHT NIGHTS, THE UNDEAD Films, TEXAS CHAINSAW's .....

All I ask is that they be done with some sense of seriousness.

I loved: The TEXAS CHAINSAW remake (Even the coming sequel is looking pretty cool), I liked H20 (for sake of bringing it back), I loved DAWN 04 ...

I loathed Halloween:Resurrection (Did they kill Jamie in this?), I loathed Land of the Dead, I despised Jason X and Jason -vs- Freddy ..

I agree !

Yes yes yes!

I get the idea; but I think Tobe has lost it. I recently watched Mortuary and it was really bad. I think even JC has lost it although it'd probably glorious to see him return to the franchise

Is your Super 8 telecined ? I wanna see !

This actually makes me want to watch another Halloween. I'd given up the sequels years ago. Rob Zombie probably knows more about horror films than most of us combined. He's a horror junkie. I think any good director/musician has every right to "borrow" from their influences. As long as Zombie's putting his own personal stamp on it, he's ok in my book.

I see where you're coming from, I too loved the Dawn remake against all my endevours to despise it :-) So I'm not saying it can't be done, just the odds are stacked heavily against.

If you think that all of these figures have become established horror cliches by now; they are guarenteed a certain type and size of audience and the studio's know it - no matter what they make. So with Halloween, gone are the times when the indie guy wanted to make a raw movie and had an original conept and didnt care about demographics. Now behind that same franchise are a group of execs wondering how to reinvent the franchise to make money... I just think thats a very bad starting point. If you think Rob Zombie will have full creative control... well... Im not so sure.

In all honesty I dont think any worse movies could be made than the abysmal freddy v Jason so why not... I just think the more interesting and hardcore ideas will come from the indies. Such as Wolf Creek, funny games or irreversible. Sadly the likes of freddy, jason, michael and leatherface have long since been consumed by a bigger machine. I gave ressurection or whatever it was a miss as it seemed like a total cash in.

I couldn't agree with this statement more.

And as for Jason X. I take it for the comedy i think the writers and director's intended it to be. Its certainly not as bad as Friday VIII. My top pick for worst film to ever be produced by a studio.

I've seen nonsensical stuff shot on VHS cameras by amateurs with no prior filmmaking experience that didn't suffer from the poor quality, continuity errors, ham acting, terrible cinematography, and overall boredom that comprise VIII.

Toxic waste under NYC? That turns Jason into a little boy in a loincloth?

WTF????!!!!!

Not bad for a rough track but i hope they bring it farther along than this.

I could do without some of those sound effects too.

I still prefer the simplicity of Carpenter's original score.

Yeah, I agree.

Sounds just like the original but with some added dimension that is too much for me. Too gimmicky. Especially the end.

What sounds like "children chanting" doesn't do it for me.

But at least he's sticking to the core of the theme.

I got definite faith in Zombie to hit this one out of the park and this is a great start.

Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, releasing it in August? wtf?

Im sure they do this to release the DVD for sale around the holiday. They did this last year with Monster House.

H20 was realeased in early August, so it's not unheard of. I'd prefer a late September or early October release, though. I think it would really help the box office numbers.
