"Berlin" - A Norm Sanders Film - DVD NOW AVAILABLE

Thanks again guys, as usual for the props. I HOPE to get more active in this thread again soon with updates, etc.

Greg, thanks for the interest! I don't think I'm ready yet to really market this & take pre-orders, etc. as I want to make sure that the stuff I PLAN to have in the DVD actually makes it ... so I'd hate to have anyone pre order, and not get exactly what I said would/should be in there.

I'll probably open up a pre-order option a week or two before I begin duplication/replication. :) Look for that in January.

So when I set out to do this, I was originally hoping to have the DVD available prior to Christmas. However, I was nearly two weeks behind with my own locked edit, and then it's been tough on the sound dept working through the holidays, etc.

So we're now likely on schedule for the end of this month.

That said, I've rec'd the 2nd draft of the score from Herman, and there were multiple areas I got goose bumps. One or two even made me want to tear up, and I've seen this thing hundreds of times already ... just goes to show how much the score adds!

Sound design is due in this weekend as well, so I'm excited to be able to hear this in it's near final form.

Major CC decisions have been made, and the final will be rendered out with Vegas 8, in 32 bit color.

VFX are done, Shawn. Neil Rowe contributed to the knife (adding blood to a clean knife, in a moving/tracking shot), and Ryan Kozicki ended up delivering the final matte.

Tom, I did PM you back to the last Q you had for me, but never heard back. Ryan was able to jump on the matte work pretty quickly, and once I never heard back from anyone else (with exception to two other submissions that weren't to the level of Ryan's), I went with the one below.

It's SUCH a short shot, that while CG animation (if done extremely well) certainly would have increased the believability & production value, even the simple pan/push that's done on this, fits nicely & looks realistic. The only thing that would sell it more, in my opinion, and considering the limited view with the cinemascope (2.35:1 matte) would be to have the banners waving ever so slightly from a breeze.

I am very excited about this project!

I've always wanted to do a period film about bomber crews myself, but it would be very difficult build a Lancaster interior set and I am sure none of the remaining lancs around the country would be interested in letting people shoot in them.

That's strange. Either you message was never delivered or mine wasn't. Just so you know I didn't blow it off at all. :)

I started working on setting up a Maya cloth simulation which would have had a wind generator blowing the cloth flag around. I had the perspective matched with the building and had the flag made from a Maya cloth. All that was left was to add the wind emitter.

Well, shoot, I know I never saw that PM. :( Care to have an animation credit & make the existing flags flap in the wind? Otherwise, if you'd still like me to take a look at the matte work you did, Tom, I'd still like to!

Everyone else, thanks for the continued support. Just got the premix in from Erik, our Sound Designer, so I'll be rendering out tonight to listen to it with the master CC tomorrow....

I can take a screenshot of the Maya scene so that you can see where the flag placement is. It would probably take about a week to do the wind and make it look right. When I say all that's needed is to add the wind emitter, I also meant I have to figure out how it all works... lol

Got it. Well, look forward to whatever you can send me. :) Just got the sound design in tonight, and took a quick, cursory listen to it before rendering out a HD version to listen to & critique in the morning. All I can say about it at the moment is that what I've heard so far is VERY impressive (just a premix, no levels in place yet), and I feel like I'm watching a new movie, every time a new major component comes in. :)

Also got a little more aggressive with the CC, which I may post various grabs of here tomorrow for feedback. May also post in the Vegas forum to see if anyone LOVES CC, and is interested in doing the CC in Vegas 8. That way, they could just send me the .veg file, and i can render from my end, with no loss. I think the CC looks good, but I'm also aware that I tend to be a little too conservative (most of the time, WITHOUT PROVOCATTION was an exception) and second guess myself with CC.

First complete mix of all SFX, Sound design, and score came in today. Rendering it out to listen to & get feedback on tonight.

In the meantime, I'm posting various frame grabs from the film, with before & after CC. Some of the CC is pretty subtle, and some still needs to be adjusted. Also posting in the Vegas sub forum now to see if there's a CC artist that wants to take a crack it as well...

I'm very impressed with what Ryan did with the plate photo I took. The CC looks great as well. My only criticism is the faces in the final scene are a little too red/yellow. I figure you brought up the saturation to make the leaves pop in the background. My suggestion would be to put a tracking under saturated vignette on the older woman (not sure you can do this in Vegas). Otherwise I'm not sure what you could do besides brining down the red saturation levels. If you're interested, I'd be happy to stop by and lend my CC expertise eyes and give some more suggestions.

I'm excited to see the final film!

Absolutely, Isaac, let me know when you'd like to come by, and we'll try to make something work. :)

There's no automatic tracking in Vegas, but I can key frame the movement, rotoscope, etc., and then blend/composite it all in the same NLE.
