Should I get a cheap minidv camera for capturing and playback?

If i shoot 24pa with my dvx and capture on a cheapo walmart minidv cam will it mess anything up? I don't think it would matter, but you can't be too cautious in these scenarios. I just don't want to capture with my dvx anymore, too big of an investment.

Thank you so much.

They really need to come out with a cheap ~$100-$150 deck. All they would need to do is release their low end dv camera without the imaging elements. It could be the same size as a walkman.

I agree with the "low end deck" idea... but the problem is, is that the cheap DV cameras aren't made for overuse of the VTR modes, and just won't last as long as the nice decks.

Although I will say I've been using my little canon cam as a deck for almost 4 years now with zero problems. And that's logging roughly 5-10 tapes per week. *knocking on wood*

Of course they're not going to last as long as the high ends, but for 1/10th of the price, who cares?

Not me... I'll take two please.

And yes, I can't believe one hasn't been made available yet. I mean... there's GOT to be a fairly large market for them, right?

Not really.

As you said, most consumers are happy with their one camcorder.

And professionals normally have a deck.

All it leaves is the middle of the range guys without the budget for pro gear, but with higher needs than the consumer - and that's a comparatively smaller pool to develop a new product for - especially as it wouldn't really improve over what is available to the masses for a couple of hundred bucks anyway.

But all you would have to do is convince even the 'low end camera' users that they're damaging their 700 dollar investment by using it to capture. Just model something after what the drug companies do in 'creating the syndrome.'

Then watch'em flock!! :D

Seems to me that at a 200 dollar price point, you might get a surprising response.

Also seems that I should research tape drives and make a million dollars off just the users of this site alone.......hint hint
