I met with a director today for a feature film. I pretty much got the job for a Production Assistant but he still wants a "film" resume and demo reel. I don't have a demo reel yet but I do have a resume but its just like a regular resume. Is there some sort of film/video format for resumes? Could someone point me to an example of a "flim resume".

Thank you. I'm very excited to have a chance to work on a feature!

What? the Director wants a reel for a PA position?? Um... why the hell would a PA have a demo reel?

What are they offering for pay, is my first question? doesn't sound like he's got it together very well, and I'd make sure everything's legit.

Yeah, asking a PA-candidate for a reel is...weird.

Write a resume that bullets your experience, and your skills. Include references; people who will say that you're smart, self-starting, motivated, etcetera...I guess you could include your education. Nothing much else matters for a PA slot.

Yep, everything is legit. 100$ a day. He has seen some of my work already but he said it was just be good to give to the producers some kind of resume and reel since he utlitmately doesn't do the hirring. He is doing me a favor trying to get my foot in the door. I've never used a film camera ever nor have I been on the set of a movie (over a coulple million dollar budget). Also, he said a reel would be nice becaause it may give me an oppurtunity to intern with the DP.

I have a resume but I was just curious if thier is some sort of format for a film resume?

Thanks for the pointers and response Sad Max.

Hey, congrats on the PA offer. That's great, man!

Thanks Tom I'm pretty excited! I mean anytime you have a chance to work on a feature shouldn't you jump at it ryan? I would love to get my foot in the door and this will give me a chance. You have to start some where. I can hardly stand my mundane video production job any longer.

A *lot* of people have started with PA work. Michael Bay was a PA on Night Court (not sure where I heard that...). And if you get a chance to work alongside the DP, then that would be a great opportunity to learn big budget lighting, which can only help... :)

That is what I figured. Night Court ha haven't heard that for a while :). Plus the director is going to lend me has 16mm camera and some free film to practice with (very generous) wants me to learn shooting on film and I would love to. So I guess I best learn how to read a light meter lol. Quite excited! Feels like all the hard work is slowly paying off.

Very cool. How'd you meet this person?

Sounds like a great opportunity for you. Any chance to work on a feature film has to be good. What is your 'mundane job', and are you going to be quitting soon? It might be an opening good enough for a beginner like me lol:happy:!

I have Final Cut experience and a little After Effects.

Thanks guys. Tom I met the director through a friend I recently met (good old networking) but it was kind of like being in the right place at the right time.

The film doesn't start shooting until may so I will keep my mundane job until then atleast and maybe take leave of absence or just quit.
