concert footage of Through You

Greetings,

A local production company, Orlando Media Productions (OMP), hired me to come out and shoot single camera at a band's CD Release Party last saturday. I had to shoot from a fixed tripod shot next to the board so I decided to shoot some slow-mo and a bit of timelapse that's used on another vid. I used Barry's low noise settings to and it really came across so well. The client loved the footage especially compared to their previous XL1 footage. Might be something much bigger in the works... hopefully!

I know some people were interested in this.... so here's some low-light/concert footage shot at 48fps with 30p timebase. Even with overcranking still able to get a decent exposure and the normal frame stuff is killer.

CHANGED video: Check this out instead/ http://www.electriccowtheater.com/TYweb/HDTY .mov

Thanks and...
Please download (right click, save as) because it's 150 megs. Not sure how long I can keep it online.... Comments welcome and appreciated...

Well, the footage is squished (not proper aspect ratio), and the titles are cut off. So, it's hard to judge. It looks like it could use some cc. The blacks are kinda murky and they really could have used a follow spot on the lead singer. Everything looks a little soft too --- not quite focused. Is that the compression or was there just a lot of smoke in the room?

The good news is that nothing here looks particularly noisy. Whoohoo!

yes the compression was done fast and slightly off.. cut off the title safe I think. Follow spot really isn't something for a show like this.. Focus was pulled off the camera and isn't soft.... There was a lot of smoke in the room. Also no CC as of yet... but there's a whole lot that can be done and I'm a huge fan of the B and W quality from this cam.

Also things are overdrawn and brought out in the slow-mo stuff.. the normal speed stuff doens't have the same feeling..

But yes.. not too noisy at all... very happy about that.

Hey Justyn,
Footage looks really good, But the compression really srews it. But you can tell that the original footage really holds up. And there is not that much noise at all. And I think any noise we see is from the compression. Good work

Justyn,

As always, nice shot choice. I shot some concert stuff with the HVX last week but struggled with noise....

Wut were your scene file settings, gain, shutter for what u shot. I would like to know.

Thanks,

pretopost... I had a major noise problem when I was shooting at my chuch.. it wasn't as bad at this concert which had a lot of stage wash and lights with some power. I do think that Barry's setting choice helped alot though.

I used cinema D I believe for the gamma, detail -2, v detail -2, detail coring +7, pedestal -5. Shutter was 1/30th for the low-light and slow-mo stuff. I think I was pretty much wide open most of the time. I personally think the stuff with the most dramatic bright white light.. Paticularly rim light makes the video look the best. Extreme color is also a nice way to mask any noise.

Not sure if I'm missing anything... I will recompress the footage again through compressor as I've done before. I think I'll put up another song as well.

What are your compression settings?

The squsih makes it really crappy looking.. Lets see it formated correctly Justyn, I know you know how! I've watched some amazing stuff from you before..
Now hop to it so I can steal your footage! :-)

Ahhh, much better.. Looked great! I love the end when the lights come up.. The wide shots are really sweet.. As soon as you zoom to 55mm you loose that stop of light that you really need, and even more light loss with the high speed.. This camera loves light so much.. When your outside shooting in decent light, or light a scene yourself, it's just the BOMB!!

Otherwise, top notch dude.. Great edit..

Whats up with cousin It, the drummer?? He looks like he's 12.. hahah

I should have some edited footage in a week or so for a project for a company called Critter Control.. Hissing racoons, and setting traps.. :-) Fun stuff!!
