Wise to buy off Ebay? (no warranty)

Is it strongly recommended to not purchase any cameras off E-bay when they do not come with the manufacturer's warranty? For example the one I'm looking at has less than 6 hours on the head, but the guy has owned it for over a year, so no warranty.

Is it probable this camera will act up and I'm going to end up needing it fixed.. or should I not worry too much about that? Thanks in advance!

If you think that this guy is a reputable seller and you're getting a good deal, there's nothing wrong with getting a camera with no warranty. Actually a warranty isn't as encompassing as you would think. Accidental damages isn't covered for example and the manufacturer can always deny you coverage if they decided that the damage was your fault. This is from the guy who just ended up paying $260 to repair a camera that is still under warranty. With that said you should take all the usual precautions like using a credit card to pay for the item so you can get quick refund if it's DOA and running every test you can the moment you get the camera.

Be VERY careful when dealin' on ebay. Do as much research on the seller as humanly possible on the internet. Get a phone number, call and talk.

I got a GREAT deal on Ebay for my HVX. No warranty, but at that price the warranty wasn't really something I cared about.

Ok guys thanks,

I found an XH A1 that has been opened, used for a test shoot, under an hour of usage, for $3000 even. The camera was purchased in October of '07 by him, so it's under warranty still, even though you make a good point about them Jade.

I'm paying with Paypal, and the auction was done through E-bay's service, so if for any reason something goes wrong paypal allows you to file a claim and they'll put the transaction on hold. Plus there's a 1 week return policy on this item I'm not too worried.

Keep an eye out I'll be posting some footage soon!

I bought my XHA1 on Ebay (BRAND NEW with empty warranty card) for $2850 back in June. I didn't buy it from an Ebay store, but rather just a regular Ebay seller. I never regret my purchase one bit.
