took the ex-1 out to times square on tuesday for an hour or so

shot the footage in 1080p in 24.

didnt spend too much time in post.

guess you could say it was partially inspired by Philip Bloom's piccadilly circus footage

just got the letus extreme and am shooting a music video up in NYC again in 2 weeks so will take the chance to get some footage with the letus to show.

footage is in quicktime.

I would doubt there were any problems - no strobes, and the frequency of the lights matches the frequency of the camera. And the shutter was clearly wide open.

Flashing lights of almost any sort are not nearly as fast as strobes (1/50,000 of a second) and should cause issues with a CMOS shutter.

thanks for the kind responses.

and yes, no apparent problems with the rolling shutter.

also, i did have the shutter at 1/48th and 1/60th for most, if not all of the shots

regarding strobe:

a photo power pack fastest duration is about 1/12000 of a second on a profoto 7a,

on an acute 1200 (the slowest pack) when it is dialed up to full power it is 1/560 or so...
even on camera flashes still ring in at about 1/833 of a second....nothing in times square is going to be that seizure inducing.

BUT:
if we can get a strobe light that goes really slow, 1/24 you could still get the effect of a strobe, but no scan lines. im not worried about on camera flash, but for lighting effects. ex: music videos, or for fashion related stuff, see david lynch's gucci fragrance commercial.

if you find some el cheapo dj light that is that slow, please post it!

Very nice footage. Some of the cleanest night shots I've seen. Would love to see a full rez version, even if it's just a few seconds.

That was so beautiful! I loved it.

you just used the original build in fujion optic right?

thanks and yes, all of the footage was with the fuji.

as for post production:

brought it into FCP. added a gamma tweak and some vignetting on some of the shots. then just went to export as quicktime. no color tweaking or anything else which says a lot about the camera.

that was great.. minute 4 with the vendor ws my fave part, also i noticed somthing @ 1:10 when the yello cab goes by... it streaks ..is that cuz of shutter drag?

very clean, very nice. I like the EX's Picture. And anyone saying it looks Videoey.... Cmon..... it looks nice. Kodak Vision 3 is pristine and clean..... So is a DSLR. And i think they look amazing.
